Something absolutely huge has just happened in Russia: the Russian Council of the Federation, the equivalent of the US Senate, has just UNANIMOUSLY passed a resolution allowing Putin to use Russian armed forces in the Ukraine, something the Duma had requested earlier. Before the vote took place, Russian senators said that Obama had threatened Russia, insulted the Russian people and that they demanded that Putin recall the Russian ambassador to the USA. I have never seen such a level of outrage and even rage in Russia as right now.
I hope and pray that Obama, and his advisers, stop and think carefully about their next step because make no mistake about that RUSSIA IS READY FOR WAR.
Now, the resolution of the Council of the Federation does not, repeat, NOT, mean that Russian forces will move into the Ukraine. Key Russian politicians have already spoken out and clarified that all this did was give the authority to Putin to use the armed forces, but that he was free to decide on whether this was needed or not.
Yet, this is a warning which should not be taken lightly. The way I see it, it not only means that Russia will act to protect Crimea, but that there is a real possibility that Russia could even use its armed forces elsewhere in the Ukraine and this is a huge development.
In the past days I have listened to many Russian experts, lots of talkshows, political statements, etc. and I was amazed by the fact that nobody even suggested that Russia should intervene militarily. Everybody agreed that Russia should support the Russian speakers in the Ukraine politically, financially, and morally. But nobody mentioned the use of force. So what happened since?
1) some kind of attack on Crimea overnight
and
2) Obama’s absolutely imbecile and reckless threats against Russia
And this combination really set things off. Now, every single political party in the Council of the Federation and every single representative have voted to allow the use of Russian armed force. That would be the equivalent of the US President getting each member of the House and the Senate to vote to allow him to wage war.
I need to make something else clear here: no amounts of threats will stop the Kremlin now, all that will achieve is to get even more of the public reaction of support for Putin. And if some wannabe Napoleon or Hitler decided to try to use military forces against Russia the latter will go to war, no matter who is standing against it.
The USA and the EU have to realize that they dangerously overplayed their hand in the Ukraine: they have used neo-Nazis to overthrow a totally corrupt and incompetent President, but a legitimate one, in the process they have wrecked the Ukrainian state apparatus, by allowing so much wanton violence and racist slogans they have totally freaked out the eastern and southern Ukraine, and by either conducting or allowing an attack on Crimea they have threatened the Russian population and the Black Sea Fleet. That is yet another absolute and TOTAL DISASTER of the Obama Presidency. This man is as dishonest, as he is mediocre, arrogant and reckless and I hope and pray that the US Joint Chiefs are going to have a “frank exchange of views” with him as soon as possible. In an ideal world, the Congress should have impeached that despicable loser, but since they are even worse then him, it is for the JCS to act.
The Russians are united, they are really angry and they know that they have the military strength to defend their country and their people in the near abroad. I don’t recommend anybody doubt their resolve because if Russia is attacked its response will be devastating: think 08.08.08 but on a vast scale.
I think that a disaster can, and will, be avoided. I even hope that the Russian military will not move into the Ukraine, but the US has to rein in both the insurgency government and the Fascists in the streets and tell them all to “cool it”. The next necessary step is to spot the nationalists from trying to seize further buildings in the east and southern Ukraine. Last, but not least, the USA and Russia should get together to strike some deal which would allow the Ukraine to formally survive as a unitary state, but make it a de-facto confederation with a purely symbolic presidency.
The leaders of the USA and the EU have to now understand that they are playing with fire and that this is not a “Ukrainian” problem: now they themselves are at risk of ending up in a war against Russia, possibly a nuclear one. And even if they never admit to that publicly, they need to at least have to courage to admit to themselves that they themselves created that situation and that the responsibility for it is fully theirs.
The Saker
Comment on Kremlin Stooge worth quoting in full
“Well well. The question of the legitimacy of the ‘interim’ government in Kiev seems to have penetrated some of the MSM BS Bubble.
NYT: After Initial Triumph, Ukraine’s Leaders Face Battle for Credibility
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/02/world/europe/after-initial-triumph-ukraines-leaders-face-battle-for-credibility.html
“…“You have a revolution, with unelected guys seizing power,” said Andrew Wilson, a Ukraine expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations.
“The people on the Maidan might be right, they might be martyrs, and they have good arguments, but no one elected them,” he said. “You need to get real politics and competition and more legitimacy. Of course, the counterargument is just concentrate on economy. But the credibility question is tearing the country apart and the transfer of power cut a lot of corners constitutionally.”…”
What is a logical argument that could be made by Russia?? I would argue that,
The sole remaining legal representative in the Ukraine is President Yanukovich according to the Ukranian constitution (as Moon of Alabama pointed out earlier) . Thus, if President Yanokovich requests Russian military assistance to protect Ukranian nationals under existential threat from a cadre of anti-russian & anti-semitic cadre of russian nationalists that have gained significant influence in the coup d’etat, then this is not a Russian invasion, but an invitation of Russian forces into the Ukraine. Kiev either has the means to control the fascists but chooses not to or it does not have control of them, either way they are failing by their own measure to uphold the security of Ukranian citizens. Russian intervention is not being asked to overthrow the failures in Kiev, but to protect. This is R2P – Responsibility to Protect as requested by the President of the Ukraine. Maybe that is what Russia will argue at the UN tonight.
Note that the EU bods said that they ‘consider’ the authorites in the Kiev to be legitimate. Using the ‘consider’ word gives them wiggle room because if they have actually spoken to any international law expert, then they would know that Yanukovich has been deposed illegally and even the voting in the new rada, is deeply suspect when you have pigs with baseball bats hanging around. No document is legal if it has been signed under coercion/threat.”
Bears out what you were saying about Yanukovitch being a very useful legal tool.
So, even if I am wrong about the fact that the US holds nuclear primacy over Russia, doesn’t it seem an awful lot like the US is acting as if they BELIEVE they do?
How else can one reasonably explain the outrageous degree of provocation of the Russians that the Saker describes in this article? Either the US world hegemonists believe they have the primacy, or they have completely lost their minds.
I think you’ve got that about right.
Scary times indeed but, with the relentless bad-faith-US-dictated Eastward expansion of NATO, a moment like this really was inevitable – just very sobering when it actually happens.
I just hope that there are Western European leaders – German in particular – who grasp the deadly seriousness of the position and have a serious talk with the US Admin too. This is no longer ra-ra newspeak Russia-bashing for an infinately gullible public; it is the real deal. Unless they make genuine efforts to cool-it and are clear enough to be seen as genuine by a Russia totally pissed off by past broken promises and relentless ongoing demonisation as the ’cause of the problems du jour’, then they’d better be ready for the physical stuff because Russia has had enough of it. Russia is in a position to bring Europe to a rapid halt and my guesss is that is exactly what they will do if there are ANY obvious military or even serious economic moves made against it over this. As for Obama; the playgound big-cheese bully is in process of having his bluff called.
And I just hope you are right about the US Joint Chiefs too, because if the politicos and the Zio-crazies get their way they’re likely to fry us all.
There is a number one solution you didn´t mention:
The only that really can cool things down AT THIS STAGE is that the hapless clown in the White House himself apologizes to Russia for his threats and his choice of words.
That´s it! If he does his clients, even the Ukrainian fascists, will have to follow suit. Otherwise we can be sure as h*ll that things are going to escalate both in Ukraine and Syria whether it was intended to or not.
Mighty Vlad IS NOT GOING TO SAVE HIS ASS THIS TIME!
The Zionist strategy is typically to push forward aggressively, then back off at the last minute.
does not, repeat, NOT, mean that Russian forces will move into the Ukraine
What do you mean? They are already there. Those “mystery” military guys without insignias – who do you think they are?
You are absolutely right, and Obama’s advisors are either clueless, or more likely, clueless and cynical, and I imagine that the Israelis may well be part of manipulating the Administration, in order to derail peace negotiations with Iran, distract the Russians from Syria- perhaps in anticipation of a major attack, and positioning themselves to sell their natural gas to Europe, e.g., to Ukraine through Slovakia. It is all very risky and quixotic, and self destructive, but there are some smart and experienced former officials and diplomats with cooler heads who ARE knowledgeable about Russia and are preparing to set him straight in the media, if they can’t get his ear in private meetings. And, as you’ve suggested, there is a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs- i.e., Dempsey who will read him the riot act.
I trust no one, but up to now Putin has been the most sensible statesman, and he kept his cool, even with all of the provocations demonizing him in the press, and the LGBT nonsense. And when you look at it, he offered an economic lifeline to Ukraine, that the West sabotaged. I think the ones who will suffer more than they expect are the Germans, and when I say suffer, I mean they will be pressured to pay through the nose.
Robert- Excellent comment, excellent legal logic
The presidency of the us has been a puppet show ever since the forces in control now, took out JFK, even then their power was considerable. But now, it is monolithic at least in appearance, who would want to preside over a destroyed household?
NATO seems to be a very deadly combination of imbeciles, cunning predators, greed dominated creatures and nihilists. A pathocracy, and yes from the little I know, it seems Russia is one of the few remaining Nations in the world where the system of normal people is in relative good health

At last, a long overdue firm response from Russia — accompanied by a ditto resolve — has been delivered now for all the Zionazi Western scum to hear. The “dirty little secret” of the West, mind you, is its limitless cowardice in accordance with the classical fascist template. In other words, unless you believe your enemy to be unarmed and utterly defenceless, you NEVER resort to overwhelming violence. Georgia’s Saakashviili is a most touching example indeed of how fascist imbeciles react upon realizing they have miscalculated badly.
Now, there are two passages in the text I have to take issue with:
>> Last, but not least, the USA and Russia should get together to strike some deal >>
Wrong. The degenerate, moribund US Empire will NEVER resort to anything but confrontation, coercion and total deception all along the line. As I said: Whether Russia likes it or not, given the violent, extreme insanity of Western imperialism, Russia has no other option than to take down the beast once again in a merciless, ferocious battle. Nazism, after all, is the spawn of Americanism = the epitome of Western imbecility and depravity. Indeed, Ukraine’s Nazi style coup d’état furnishes an excellent proof positive of all these ideological connections.
>> The leaders of the USA and the EU have to understand now that they are playing with fire >>
Well, yes and no. More specifically, they understand full well what fire is from their centuries long, sweet experience of successful, global plunder and genocide. And, yes, they remain as dearly infatuated with this rewarding behaviour as ever — it forms a key part of their very class consciousness, mind you. But at such a historical juncture as this, they instinctively realize that the fire is becoming more and more unpredictable and erratic. Parasitic ruling classes, however, have little options than resorting to fire as their decline begins to bite — hence their “playing” with it.
Saker, you are getting excited.
As in the case of Syria: Russia’s capacity to restore order by far outweighs the US’ capacity to create and sustain disorder in this part of the world.
Ukraine will be remembered as the second major US policy blunder in the last 12 months.
After this new show of US impotency, Brzeszinski could soon be history.
The cause of the US decline is outlined in my email to you dated Jan 3rd: diminishing mental abilities in the West caused by “internal consumption” of mental power in the East.
The feckless and reckless bumbling of the US looks more like Germany’s pre-WWI emperor William every week. And we know how he ended.

I think you put too much importance on unanimity. Unlike US senate the russian Federation Council is not a real independent branch of power. By the time it went live on TV, it was all pre-decided elsewhere, and unanimity was expected.

“A Ukrainian Neo-fascist Yarosh called for Umarov’s help. Is the West relying on such “democrats”? Will the local reaction follow? – Russian diplomat wrote in his Twitter.
On Saturday, the head of the Ukrainian ultranationalist organization ” The Right sector” and one of the Maidan leaders Dmitry Yarosh addressed to the leader of the Chechen terrorists Doku Umarov for support.
He wrote about this on “the Right sector” public page in “VKontakte”.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly drawn attention of Western partners to the extremist and ultranationalist slogans of Maidan leaders and those politicians’ whose party came to power in Ukraine….”

Apparently the zionazis are up to their old PR manipulation tricks at the UNSC:

“20:51 GMT: The United Nations Security Council urgent closed-door meeting on Ukraine has been delayed after some of the member states decided to change the format of the meeting and make it public.
“We are ready for a serious discussion, but some members of the Security Council at the last moment have decided to change the format of the meeting. It’s not how the things are done. Instead of dealing with the matter we are having this strange discussion,” Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin told Itar-Tass.”
I suspect the usual suspects wanted to change the format from serious talks to their public propaganda monologues demonising Russia designed for the Jewish run/owned western media then to regurgitate as sound bites. The war criminal sods know they have no legal, diplomatic or moral leg to stand on, so they want to turn the meeting into one of their propaganda circuses.

My two cents: Russia has been forced to concentrate her strenght and attention to the border with Ucraina (and maybe even a little further than this border, see the “airport affair”), and this means that US & co. would face a much more diminished resistance in Syria in case of an attack.
Greetings from Bavaria.
PS: thanks for the coverage of the events!
The very next time I read a blog, Hopefully it does not fail me just as much as this particular one. I mean, Yes, it was my chcoie to read, however I actually believed you’d have something useful to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could possibly fix if you were not too busy looking for attention.
I am surprised by how the Obama comments of 28/2 evening were interpreted by Russian senators.
Hearing the Obama speech, I interpreted it as “minimum service” as far as reaction to Russian military actions in Crimea are concerned. No more.
I mean: given the position and actions by US government about the Ukraine crisis, Obama had he not reacted would have completely deconsidered itself. So he reacted yes, but what is the practical value of that reaction? … Not much!
Even the words “there will be a price to pay”, which seem to have incensed many in Russia, are actually quite ordinary. Please look up debates in US congress e.g. at: http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2013/11/09/obama-gop-price-pay-defying-american-people/
“Obama Warns GOP: “A Price to Pay” for Defying “the American People””
This speech about “price to pay” is little more than empty political chatter.
What concrete measures is the US government contemplating so as to have Russia “pay a price”? Why, they would go as far as boycotting the G8 meeting planned June 2014 in Sochi!
Can you imagine? What a strong reaction!!!
… NOT ! :-D !!!
The NATO tools are meeting on sunday, while the American UN dreck is screaming for UN observers to go to the Ukraine. What is interesting is that the Russians have hardly done anything yet. They reinforced their Sevastopol base, which they are legally entitled to, and they maybe used some special forces units to intercept some specific terrorist acts. That’s pretty much it.
From the hysteria in Jewish owned/run western media and from many of the western regimes, one would think the Russians invaded the Ukraine like the zionist puppets invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. It was the same thing when Israel’s proxies in Georgia invaded South Ossetia. The fact both the Ukraine coup and South Ossetian invasion took place during Olympics taking place in the rivals of the Israeli-American empire is no coincidence, it’s a good example of the cowardly zionist Jewish mentality.

Exactly. Excellent summary, Nussiminen.
The International bankers are running out of time as the BRIC nations are eroding the $US dollar’s world currency status and when it goes, so does much of their power base. So they are both full of hubris thinking they can control chaos and at the same time desperate as their plans for complete world domination slip away. It’s the schizophrenic thinking of an addict.

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 1, 2014
Readout of President Obama’s Call with President Putin
President Obama spoke for 90 minutes this afternoon with President Putin of Russia about the situation in Ukraine. President Obama expressed his deep concern over Russia’s clear violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is a breach of international law, including Russia’s obligations under the UN Charter, and of its 1997 military basing agreement with Ukraine, and which is inconsistent with the 1994 Budapest Memorandum and the Helsinki Final Act. The United States condemns Russia’s military intervention into Ukrainian territory.
The United States calls on Russia to de-escalate tensions by withdrawing its forces back to bases in Crimea and to refrain from any interference elsewhere in Ukraine. We have consistently said that we recognize Russia’s deep historic and cultural ties to Ukraine and the need to protect the rights of ethnic Russian and minority populations within Ukraine. The Ukrainian government has made clear its commitment to protect the rights of all Ukrainians and to abide by Ukraine’s international commitments, and we will continue to urge them to do so.
President Obama told President Putin that, if Russia has concerns about the treatment of ethnic Russian and minority populations in Ukraine, the appropriate way to address them is peacefully through direct engagement with the government of Ukraine and through the dispatch of international observers under the auspices of the United Nations Security Council or the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). As a member of both organizations, Russia would be able to participate. President Obama urged an immediate effort to initiate a dialogue between Russia and the Ukrainian government, with international facilitation, as appropriate. The United States is prepared to participate.
President Obama made clear that Russia’s continued violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity would negatively impact Russia’s standing in the international community. In the coming hours and days, the United States will urgently consult with allies and partners in the UN Security Council, the North Atlantic Council, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and with the signatories of the Budapest Memorandum. The United States will suspend upcoming participation in preparatory meetings for the G-8. Going forward, Russia’s continued violation of international law will lead to greater political and economic isolation.
The people of Ukraine have the right to determine their own future. President Obama has directed his Administration to continue working urgently with international partners to provide support for the Ukrainian government, including urgent technical and financial assistance. Going forward, we will continue consulting closely with allies and partners, the Ukrainian government and the International Monetary Fund, to provide the new government with significant assistance to secure financial stability, to support needed reforms, to allow Ukraine to conduct successful elections, and to support Ukraine as it pursues a democratic future.
You Say the US just made things worse in Russia as Russia has declared US as a threat to Russia because of Obama speech.
I am not sure as to Russia was allowed to just go into Ukraine in the first palace without consulting a resolution with the UN or the Go summit, for that Russia has crossed the line of the treaty signed back during the 1990s with the USA Britain and Ukraine.
If Russia chooses to entre Ukraine and start shooting at Ukraine military or savilians the USA and Britain will be forced to defend if they like it or not because of the treaty that was signed.
To abandon the treaty would be breaching the act of conduct for that US and Britain could loose all rights with the UN act and for all treaty been signed with other can be abolish, as for the US and Britain will never breach of act.
Russia should of put there case before the UN and with Britain and US at the Go summit as for they have breach the act they are in the wrong no mater what and could cause a global war.
As all people discuss who is in the right or wrong it doesn’t matter now.
Russia must leave Ukraine as the law of the treaty is inforced, if Russia attacks Ukraine, Ukraine most likely will receive military aid from USA and Britain and allies.
Russia cannot fight the world

Xi vows punishment on terrorists, careful rescue for victims

Note the timing of the attack. The terrorists involved are known associates of the terrorists attacking Russia and those attacking Syria. We now know that these terrorists have been working with the nazis terrorising the Ukraine. Just all one big happy zionist/fascist/terrorist family.

Thanks for the White House Press release, Anonymous.
What a lot of hypocritical drivel. It would be interesting to hear the other side of that conversation; Putin’s responses to this shameless hypocrisy, that is.
I don’t understand;
So these neo-nazis in the Ukraine actually represent Jews?

The Jews Kliczko, Lubawicz, Kaczyński, etc have teamed up with Nazis, or what has happened?
What is happening? Explain to me.
Thanks for blog, full of information i would never see on Irish TV.
Could you not set up your own site, and make some money from ads?
Something to reward you for your work here.
Dear Saker,
Check this out:

Thanks.
You’re welcome, James. My only hope is, they spoke for 90 minutes and the only people Obama seems to truly disregard and denigrate are Progressives and Liberals — so maybe he’ll listen to Putin, or at least take him halfway seriously? After five years, I have to admit I still don’t have a good handle on him. He’s a lying corporate tool, but beyond that, I’m not sure he’s really even calling the shots; he certainly doesn’t appear to be into the details of anything, including Yatsenyuk’s name. http://consortiumnews.com/2014/03/01/ukraine-one-regime-change-too-many/
СРОЧНО: последние приказы еврофашистов

Claim Ukrainian paras are “scheduled to begin redeployment DSHB aircraft from Dnepropetrovsk to Crimea” at 6am Crimea time. There was a large anti-fascist demo in Dnepropetrovsk today, which is also claimed here to have prevented an earlier para redeployment attempt.
If true, it looks like zionazia is continuing incursions designed no doubt to elicit a military response from Russia, which they will then use to claim Russian aggression to further hide their own aggression and terrorism in the Ukraine.
It’s quite possible the zionazi/western fascist NWO is using Ukraine to try and isolate Russia from the rest of the world. In other words, Ukraine is the beginning of their “big push” to knock them out. That they are running similar terror campaigns against Venezuela, and now possibly in the early stage of the same in China, says that these oligarchs are making a major world wide effort to shut down their rivals.

Thank you once again, Saker, for keeping us informed about the Ukrainian crisis. The MSM is useless as usual.
I live in Canada. Here, the parliament had a “debate” on the Ukr. situation and all parties agreed that we should “support the Ukrainian people in their transition to democracy.” That does not require (or deserve) further comment on my part.
I am pretty sure there will be no war between NATO and Russia. The story would be different if Ukraine had oil of course. The Americans have once again humiliated themselves with their own bombast.
I would not be surprised to see Ukraine partitioned and a year from now the east and crimea will be either full members of the Russian Federation or client states. Europe will get the Galician problem. Good luck to them.
It’s remarkable how hate of Russia over-rides everything else. Remember Bernard-Henri Levy and Libya? And Syria? Well, he was happy to instigate Maidan revolt as well (February 09):
“Maidan – war against Russia! French against Putin!”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R9CiuGxTVM
Ukrainian press reports that Levi is meeting with Tymoshenko today, too.

And so it begins

It isn’t going well and I didn’t think the military has forgotten Georgia
Canada recalled its ambassador in Russia.
Canada recalls its ambassador. http://pm.gc.ca/eng/news/2014/03/01/statement-prime-minister-canada-situation-ukraine
We join our allies in condemning in the strongest terms President Putin’s military intervention in Ukraine. (not Russia, Putin!!!)
We call on President Putin to immediately withdraw his forces to their bases and refrain from further provocative and dangerous actions. (Putin again!!!)
Canada has suspended its engagement in preparations for the G-8 Summit, currently planned for Sochi, and the Canadian Ambassador in Moscow is being recalled for consultations. (going further than the Yanks!)
We will continue to cooperate closely with our G-7 partners and other allies. (G-7, not G-8; Russia will be ousted from that group, I’m sure)

A friend just traveled by plane and airport over much of the circumference of the planet and while the following observation is but one person’s experience, it’s a recognizable sign of the times: most every country but one offered professional pleasant circumstances. The USA offered too much of the shoddy, the inept, the rude, the threadbare.
Or consider the prison population of the USA: larger than China/India combined. Or tens of millions of USA inhabitants on anti-depressants etc. Etc.
There are so many signs of dysfunction and rot in the beast.
A working definition of insanity is a chronic inability to distinguish the real from the imagined. Dishonesty: the attempt to hide the real, and to present the unreal as real. In conjunction with each other, as political guidance, horrible things are made to happen. Indochina gets very bombed. Throats are slit in Libya. Dangers multiply and loom. Weird people gain political leverage, and coalesce. Such is now the “West’.
Make-believe dominates Washington.
Russia has a history which included in the 19th century a lot of official forbearance, the quality of mercy, when it came to serious crimes. It was pretty hard to get yourself executed, and even those who went badly wrong were dignified by a belief in the shared human capacity for spiritual transformation. Dostoevsky got to spend four fertile years in life school prison with mass murderers and the like. Meanwhile in genteel England, with many proud tales of Magna Carta told, executions for trifles were all the rage.
The Bolshevik revolution was a western led/financed/engineered dark detour away from Russian history and spirit. Putin as geopolitical good fortune has emerged from deep and beneficent cultural roots.
What is happening? Explain to me.
Nazis serve as useful idiots to neocons but think that some day they will be able to turn things around. Neocons, in their typical manner, are not really concerned.
