I’m still trying to understand what good could come from this gesture. I don’t know if the Orthodox Church also use the same Bible as other non-Orthodox Christians, because there is a passage in the Bible which clearly advised against throwing your pearls before a swine. The explanation of the proposed truce here in Japan yesterday was that Putin is dying and trying to make peace with God for all the evil he has committed before kicking the bucket. However, there is a flipside to that coin.
First, Putin offered the truce knowing well that, a) it was throwing pearls to nazi swine; b) it was going to be rejected.
The offering, however, goes beyond the nazi swine.
1) Patriarch Kirill called for the truce, and he’s the highest authority in Russia’s Orthodox Church.
2) His call for a truce on Nativity Eve is an expression of respect, devotion, and gratefulness to The Most High.
3) Putin honored Patriarch Kirill call, showing obeisance to his authority, committing the entire SMO, and the Russian state, to the church’s mandate.
4) Putin offering comes with many blessings attached, and those troops at the frontline who are Orthodox Christians will be grateful, as they could rotate to take a break for a religious service. The blessings from those prayers are a thousandfold, and they know they need them, more than anyone.
5) The Ukro-nazi swine has been exposed as the satanic swine they are. (No offense to the swine. Or to Satan:-)
The swine will “turn to attack,” no doubt, they are desperados looking for a way to show their western masters they are winning.

From what I’ve read, the ceasefire only applies to offensive military actions during the 36 hour period. Russian defenders will still, of course, return fire and beat off any enemy attacks. DPR leader Denis Pushilin made a statement today verifying this.

Russia doesn’t get credit in the West for the efforts it makes to lower tensions and improve relations, starting with the end of the cold war. Instead of the West recognizing that the U.S.S.R. made extraordinary concessions to end that conflict, it characterizes Russia as an expansionist empire bent on territorial conquest. So a few weeks ago, some people called for a Christmas truce in Ukraine along the lines of the famous WWI truce, and Russia has now proposed this. Lets see how much acknowledgement this gesture gets. I admit, though, that this is a symbolic gesture, and not something of major historical importance like ending the cold war, so I suppose Russia’s critics can attach a cynical meaning to it. All the same I think Russia gets painted in the darkest colors in Zone A, and the evidence to the contrary, going back years, is just ignored and buried by the press.

My Christmas wish was for one or more of the following ( Marinka, Ugledar, Artemivsk, Soledar ) to be liberated before New Year. Not too late, although a ceasefire would throw a spanner into the works.

NATO countries are for the most part no longer Christian. Only a minority in most countries claim to be Christians and only a minority of those minorities are practicing Christians who understand the Gospel, the Good News.
Asking NATO at this point, asking Ukraine, asking the US, at any point, for a cease fire will be a sign of weakness on Russia’s behalf. Maybe more than a sign. With UKUSU gaming attacks with drones on Russia’s Far East, would not surprise me if it happens during said cease fire Holiday. It’s out there, it’s only a matter of time.

I wonder if this offer by the Russians was directed more to the Orthodox Slavs in the Ukrainian military than to Natostan. The Orthodox of Ukraine know full well the animosity and hatred directed at their faith by the Gallician Nazis, Bolshevik Jews and the combined west. I think that in the US, the importance of this conflict is overshadowed by the importance of the Super Bowl (it is Super after all) among other things.
I also think that people intentionally tune it out because they fear that everything that is being reported is completely false. Many iof the reports are so filled with ultra-emotional descriptions of the HORRID Russian atrocities and of the BRAVE VALOROUS Ukrainian troops and civilians.
Many of these reports were borderline nauseating. Reminds too many people of Iraqi WMDS, Yellowcake, and Iraqi soldiers killing Iraqi babies. All complete fabrications.
