Yesterday evening I have finally come back from my week long trip to Switzerland where I barely had the time to bury my mother and go clean up her small apartment. This was probably one of the worst weeks in my life and I wanted to begin by thanking all those of you who have expressed their sympathy for the loss of my mother. Your outpouring of kindness really did touch me even if I simply did not have the time to thank you for it.
I am still jet-lagged and sick with a cold, but there has been a nasty matter which life has dumped upon me which I want to deal with right now before a resume normal blogging (which I scheduled for next Monday, December 7th): the fact that two dishonorable people decided to post the following text on the Internet: (source: http://cirilizovano.blogspot.rs/2015/11/who-is-saker.html)
Who is the Saker?
Almost a year ago to the day, I had the distinct displeasure of meeting the man who calls himself the Saker. Our professional relationship lasted less than a month, for reasons I will outline below. We parted on rancid terms and I swore to him that I would make his identity and ideological shortcomings public. I have waited until now due to milestone events in my own life and because, frankly, I was waiting to see what the loon would come up with next.
As of the end of last year, I had been following the Saker blog for several years to get news of events in Donbass and when I learned he was looking for volunteers for a Serbian sister site, I applied for the job. My original idea was to contribute some translations on an ad hoc basis but Saker had just had a major falling out with the whole Serbian team and sacked the previous team leader, Aleksandar Jovanovic. He described Mr. Jovanovic as ,,a talented translator with paranoid psychotic tendencies”. I didn’t delve too deeply into the dispute at the time (my mistake!) but later I did discover Mr. Jovanovic was quite sane, and rather a nice guy.
Anyway, after a drawing of straws among the few new Serbian volunteers, like myself, Saker himself put me forward as the new leader of the Serbian sister site. He attributed this to our common respect for traditional Slavic values, like respect for the Orthodox church and the military, plus the fact that we communicated well. I think he was also a bit influenced by the fact that I live in Argentina (not far from a cousin of his, actually), that he has family here and some fond childhood memories of holidays with them among the Russian expat community, of which I am an ardent admirer and (to the extent circumstances allow) a fleeting member.
Andrei (for by then we were on a first name basis) encouraged me to form a properly Serbian team and I promptly solicited the assistance of everyone and anyone toward that end. He promised me complete editorial freedom, which I understood to mean that all contributors, myself included, could make the points they felt were most relevant. I was convinced at this time that he was my brother Russian, and this was reenforced during the defection during this period of his French IT guru (who, I discovered subsequently, was also a very nice guy) and the threat of collapse of the entire so-called “Saker community”. At one point (as God is my witness) Andrei was begging me to assume legal ownership of all the domains in the Saker community, which had been left in limbo by Francois. I declined (for technical reasons) and it was then that my husband suggested that the Saker switch to Icelandic servers (where he is currently) to protect the integrity of his sites. You’re welcome, Andrei.
In the meanwhile, the Charlie Hebdo massacre occurred in Paris – a bunch of Muslim fundamentalists strifing the editors and staff of the “tasteless” satirical French paper, and other locales frequented by the Jewish community. For me, taste is primarily a question of education and culture; whereas freedom of speech (and editorial license) is something altogether different, supposedly one of the rights guaranteed by so-called “democracy”. Anyway, the French Saker community broke into two parts – the “I am Charlie” and “I am not Charlie” (and this had nothing to do with the withdrawal of Francois, the IT maestro, although Andrei tried to pretend this was the case). Andrei himself wrote an absolutely repulsive piece entitled “Why I am not Charlie” basically blaming the French paper for lack of refinement (a satirical paper!) and arguing that they had brought the wrath of the followers of Mohammed upon themselves because ,,they chose to provoke Islam, knowing the results this would engender”.
Faithful Serbian follower that I was of my Russian brother Andrei, I translated his article into Serbian but was most unhappy with it. By opportune chance, through a mutual friend, I chanced upon an article by the talented Serbian expat writer Aleksandar Lambros, in which he lambasts (no pun intended) the idiots who were not ,,seeing the connection” between Islamic fundamentalism and the Charlie Hebdo massacre. I have little in common with Mr. Lambros, aside from an admiration for his writing style and intellectual integrity, but I was happy to translate his Serbian into English in order to achieve a sense of balance with respect to Charlie Hebdo. Being neither Charlie nor prepared to massacre satirical staff, I was somewhat in a quandry.
I was gently (and I do emphasize ~ gently ~) reprimanded by my “brother Russian” that although I had complete editorial freedom, this did not extend as far as insulting members of the Muslim community (as the article of Aleksandar Lambros apparently did). I told him (most ungraciously, I admit) to go fuck himself and who was he, after all, to explain to a Serb, 600 years under the Ottoman yoke, the situation with Muslims? His response was that “all Serbs are crazy” (meaning me and Aleksandar Jovanovic, I guess) and that I just didn’t see he was properly respectful of Islam (whose teachings he openly compares with the teachings of the Holy Fathers of the Christian Church) ,,just like Putin admires and respects Kadhyrov”.
The Grand Strategist he is not. I did my research on Andrei Raevsky aka the Saker ex post facto and determined that he was a Swiss citizen who had already some difficulties with the Russians with respect to Chechnya. By his own admission, he was sent there as an employee of the International Red Cross and subsequently fired for his pro-Chechen bias. He later went on record in several published works as being critical of the Russian Army’s “heavy-handed approach” towards the Chechen terrorists.
He was then apparently hired on by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) out of Geneva, which sent him on several tours to ex-Yugoslavia, specifically, he claims to have been involved in “disarmament negotiations” (which can only have been detrimental to the local Serbs) in Croatia and Bosnia. Having thus cemented his friendship with the Serbs, he immigrated to the USA and underwent further grooming at the Paul H. Nitzke School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, the happy hunting ground of the likes of Madeleine Albright, Condoleeza Rice. He now lives on the Atlantic coast of the state of Florida within a stone’s throw of some 30 military installations who have no problems with his primary activities: broadcasting war against the phantom “Anglo-Zionist empire” (in the cartoon where the Western sponsored ISIL are the good guys) and soliciting donations from his (chiefly left-leaning) supporters in exchange for kitschy wallets imprinted with the Saker image, and autographed copies of his book. Like any good apologist for Islam, Raevsky is also a rabid anti-Semite.
I still believe Russians are our brothers but I don’t believe that Andrei Raevsky is one of them. He is a hybrid, a GMO if you will, of Russian soul fertilized by select Western ideology. It cannot thrive, it should not multiply. It will perish.
For those who you who might not recall who Mrs Berthet is – she was the (short-lived) Serbian Saker Team Leader #2 (if I recall corrected). As for Mr Jovanovic, he held the same position right before her. To make a long story short, soon after Mrs Berthet took over she, indeed, posted an article I judged to be insulting to Islam and I asked her to avoid doing so in the future. Just for the record: each Saker Blog Team is, indeed, 100% independent in its editorial policy, but I always assumed that mentally same people would understand that this meant “within a minimal core number of values” including the respect for, if not endorsement of, any religion (this was never an issue with any other Saker Blog, even those run by agnostics – at least 3 by my count – but somehow became one with putatively “Orthodox” folks. Go figure). Anyway, at this point Mrs Berthet offered to resign which I gladly agreed to. I posted a notice on the blog saying that “The Serbian Saker blog has been purged of most of its data by the (now ex-) Serbian Saker blog Team leader following my opposition to the publication of a viciously anti-Muslim article. Mentaly sane Serbian friends are currently trying to re-start the blog.“
That short post elicited a truly fantastic reaction. Mrs Berthet send me an email which began with “saker, you lying, thieving, manipulating piece of human shit” and ended with “ultimately, you will be as sorry you crossed paths with me, as i am to have crossed paths with you, and this is NOT a joke or a threat. i hope you choke on your own vomit, VERMIN!“. Anybody interested in the full text can get it by clicking here. In 50 years of life I had never come across such an absolutely rabid expression of total, uncontrolled rage and I immediately understood that if I had, indeed, thought that Jovanovic was “insane” it was solely in the colloquial matter of the use of this expression, like “crazy dude”, but that Mrs Berthet was truly either truly mentally deranged, or possessed, or both.
Since I never respond to slander on principle and since I never engaged with mentally insane individuals, I did not reply and simply put a block on Mrs Berthet’s email address. As for the addressees of that email (I should add here that she sent that wonderful opus not only to me, but to pretty much every person she knew in the Saker community and everybody in the Serbian Saker Blog Team), they responded with a unanimous expression of disgust, especially the Serbs who were embarrassed to see a fellow Serb act in such a manner.
At this point, I had mistakenly concluded that with this exchange of pleasantries I was done with the crazy woman. Alas, I was very mistaken.
A few months later I got an email from her husband, whose full name I do not recall but whose email address indicated that he was the author of an anti-imperialist blog. Since I (vaguely) recall Mrs Berthet asking me not to make their association with this blog public I shall not reveal more details about this. Anway – Mr Berthet was writing to, believe it or not, blackmail me.
He entitled his email “if the Saker explodes it will fall on Andrei”. He then proceeded to tell me that unless I posted a note explaining that my trust in his wife was “well placed” and that she had not “participated in an attack against the blog” then that would prove my duplicity! He concluded that this was not a threat, but a wise warning. I could not believe my eyes, the man wanted me to prove my non-duplicity by lying to my readers about his wife and saying that my trust in her was well-placed and he was threatening to, precisely, betray my trust and reveal my identity :-)
Anyway, I told him that if he went ahead with this threat the moniker of “Judas” would stick to him and his wife forever (they have now apparently decided to earn it).
At this point, I need to explain a few things about my anonymity.
[Sidebar: I used to refer to my anonymity as “thin anonymity” because anybody with a little bit of brains reading my blog could have easily located me with the info I had already given out. I just got an email from a good friend whom I only had given only my first name and who now told me that he knew my full ID already for long time :-) This is how decent people are: respectful of privacy and boundaries]
Please remember that when I started my blog in 2007 I was a ‘nobody’ who was writing mainly for himself. I had exiled myself in Florida after leaving Switzerland where I had, indeed, been blacklisted for my pro-Serbian and pro-Russian views. I decided to create an anonymous blog for the following reasons:
- I wanted my former employers to forget about me
- I wanted to write about issues, not personalities
- I wanted my family to enjoy its full anonymity
I started the blog in 2007. We are now in the last days 2015. My former employers don’t even exist anymore. The 3 letter organizations I worked for have been disbanded and my former bosses are either dead of old age or retired. So reason one is now gone.
I still want to write about issues, not me or my past. So reason two is still current.
I still want my family to be safe and left in peace, but reason three is now compromised.
Which is really no big deal. After I got Brethet’s letter of blackmail, I wrote to the Saker Community Executive Committee (SCEC) members and asked for their advice: shall I go public or not? Their advice was to wait.
I should mention one more thing here: I always wanted to act like modern homosexuals and “come out of the closet” one day. I told my wife that this would be my “coming out” day and I tentatively scheduled it on May 1st, 2017 – on the 10th anniversary of the blog. But now that the crazies have gone ahead and violated my trust, my anonymity and my privacy, I am not exactly sure as to how to proceed.
So here is where I need you advice and opinion:
Initially, I thought that I had three options.
First, I considered simply ignoring it all. But it turns out that the crazies are now busy posting links to their little article elsewhere. For example, I was recently interviewed by Sputnik (http://sputniknews.com/politics/20151201/1031060730/turkey-war-russia-crimea-caucasus-central-asia-daesh.html) and a friend informed me that Mr Jovanovic had already posted this in the comments section:
Sputnik, by the way, apparently removed that comment (since I cannot find it any more). Still, this is ridiculous – honorable moderators will now have to look for these types of comments and remove them one by one? This is silly, no? (Note: my mistake – I did find the comment on Sputnik – the Saker)
Also, don’t underestimate the staying power of Berthet and Jovanovic. Not only do they get to wage their little anti-Saker crusade, but they also get to re-direct traffic towards their otherwise irrelevant blogs! So they will have a drive, a determination, to continue their “Saker denunciation” crusade long for a very long time. In fact, I predict that their next step will be to simply fabricate more pseudo-revelations about me with even less truth to them and this latest one.
My personal preference would be to “flush my mental toilet” and forget about these clowns, but they will do their utmost to keep themselves relevant for as long as they can, so that is not an option anymore.
Then, finally, there is also this consideration: besides lying about quite a few things in her post, Brethet got a lot of things simply wrong. Yes, my name is Andrei Raevsky, and the photo is me (cross-country mountain biking in Florida) but much of the rest is plain wrong, especially the chronology. There is also a lot missing ;-)
So I see two options, really, but I want you to decide:
I stick to my plan. I make my official “coming out” from my “closet” in 2017 where I write a painfully narcissistic post – all about myself – and I tell you the full story with details and all. In the meantime, we let the two idiots wait for the collapse of the Saker community (they don’t realize that many/most of the members of that community already know my identity which, to put it mildly, I have not been shy about revealing) and continue to post links to their “Saker denunciation posts”. But what we can do is *pretend* that they don’t exist, that for us they are beneath our “contempt radar”. I like that option because it gives them less power and it allows me to stick to the “coming out” date I had planned. Or
I say it all now. The big advantage of this option is that I can set the record strait now. Take for example the self-evidently idiotic assertion that I was fired from the ICRC for my “pro-Chechen” bias! Anybody who knows anything about ICRC or the rest of them western “humanitarian” organizations would realize that this is quite impossible and that, if anything, it could have been my pro-Russian bias which could have gotten me fired (in this case it was neither, but something I will never publicly discuss no matter what, since it involves the death of a group of innocent people). Their hatred for me clearly clouts their judgment so I expect Jovanovic and Berthet to get many other things wrong. So, shall I bother to set the record straight already now?
You can tell where I am leaning, of course (if you don’t – it’s “A”). Frankly, I don’t feel like “giving chase” to every bit of bullshit these two clowns will post in the future. To deal with dishonorable people always gives me the desire to take a shower and try to forget them as soon as I can. Then there is the fact that this blog is about issues, about resisting the Empire, not about “saying the truth about the Saker”. After all, WHO CARES who I really am or what I really did or did not do? I don’t want to reciprocate to these two crazies and act as if my ego and ruffled feathers (for a Saker – perfect expression, no?) are at the center of the universe and as if everybody should care?
I think that one self-centered and narcissistic post in May 2017 is plenty enough and that between today’s post (which I had to make) and 2017 I can focus on other, much more important and interesting issues.
Bottom line: my personal preference is definitely for “option A”: we all pretend like this all never happened and we just ignore the ugly actions of two dishonorable individuals. But, and this is really important, I want this to be your decision, not mine. After all, you have all, in various manners, trusted me and I now feel that if you do have questions about the allegations made, I should provide them. Besides, I really have never had anything to hide. Right now my biggest regret is that the security and privacy of my family: a wonderful wife of 22 years of marriage whom I admire, respect and love more with each day God granted me to spend with her and three children, a daughter and two boys – all teenagers. They are really the ones whom Berthet and Jovanovic have potentially hurt most. But I also can take care and protect them, and I trust in God’s mercy. But on a strictly personal level, I really don’t care about my privacy being compromised (in many ways, this makes things simpler as this is one less thing to worry about).
So, if you, my friends, want me to basically write up a short bio then I will gladly do it. Just let me know, okay?
My request to you is this:
1) please let me know who you want me to proceed from now on; let me know if you have any questions you want me to answer and share your views, comments and reactions to my explanations above.
2) Vote (in the comments section) by posting “option A” or “option B”.
3) Any other ideas are welcome.
As for me, I ask for your indulgence and understanding. I will restart the blog in full mode only on Monday. I am tired, jet-lagged and, frankly, rather disgusted with this entire business. I also need to reply to 173 emails which accumulated over just the past week! Finally, I want to take a few days to wash-off my sense of violation and disgust and deal with the loss of my mother.
And since all you got is a crappy photo of my mountain biking in central Florida, I am also leaving you with a photo of me made by my wife in Cedar Key in November 2013. I was celebrating my birthday and I wanted to toast to all those friends whom I missed on this occasion (my wife and I were alone on that day) so we took this photo. Now that my privacy has been compromised and my face is out there anyway, I figured I could show it to you without sunglasses and while toasting to you all – the wonderful and beautiful Saker community and all my friends who will be reading this post. Thank you all for being out there and for being such a source of comfort and support.
Andrei Raevsky aka “The Saker”
PS: a small note to my Serbian friends. Please do not worry about what happened. This is no way says anything about the Serbian people whom I love. We know from the New Testament that there is one traitor for every 12 folks out there and considering that our community has well over 100 actively engaged members, it was to be expected that eventually 2 individuals would be unworthy of our trust. In fact, I am amazed at the opposite: over the past couple of years there have been quite a few members leaving our community (the names of Nora, Gevorg, Francois come to my mind) and none of them ever violated the trust I put in them (for which I am sincerely grateful and I wanted to mention them by name for that). The truth is that more or less everybody I was even in semi-regular contact with knew my name, many I met in person, and a few even stayed at my home. Coming from the military world I knew full well that statistical probabilities were against me and that somebody would inevitably take the role of a “rat” and “snitch me out” but I simply did not care. More importantly, I will not deny my trust to most simply because of the inevitable betrayal of a few. You – my Serbian friends, have always been kind, generous and honorable friends towards me and my fondness and respect for you have not been affected by any of that.
PPS: to those interested in meeting me personally. Now that my anonymity is gone, please drop me an email if you are anywhere near East-Central Florida, I will gladly meet with you. Let’s make something good from something ugly :-)
A – I had the brief and salutary experience of running a blog as a favour for someone who turned out to be an utter psycho, very likely genuinely in need of professional help, and the moral of the tale for me was 1) these people are everywhere on the internet and 2) don’t play into their games, it makes them worse. I am pretty sure that over time it is impossible for a mental unstable, death threat making kind of psycho is to hide their true personality, so their bullshit becomes self evident. Sorry you had to deal with this at such a difficult time.
dear the saker,
I’m so sorry that you had to go through all that, I truly admire your integrity & courage,
my opinion, & I havent read the other comments is to shield your family as much as possible, so that means option A, life is hard for teenagers these days & it would make things easier for them & of course your dear wife,
please, can you let us know if you received our letter & g’s dvd? we havent written an email as you specifically asked for no emails…
saker, no need to come out as this is already done. lets get over it
what is MUCH more important is preserving the operational ability of the saker community. the world needs truth – tellers who understand what they are talking about.
there are many who would prefer to close the doors after the saker blog – everything necessary must be done to prevent this from happening
Option – A
Sorry these two compatriots of mine reacted this way. Hopefully, they will calm down. Keep up with your excellent work, we need your analysis to better understand what is going on in the world.
All the best to you and your family.
I vote for option A, don’t let them change your plans. I don’t need to know much more about you. For me you will always remain “The Saker” whose blog I discovered in March last year..
I remember the first article I read on your page, was about Putin’s speech to the return of the Crimea in the Russian Federation. After that, I was sure that I had found what I was looking for. You write not only as a political or military analyst, but also with much understanding for the people concerned. I trusted you, even though I knew nothing at all about you at that time. And this feeling has remained until today. So, decide together with your family whether and how much you want to reveal about yourself. In the end it is your choice.
Saker, you may remember me from an email exchange we had in July 2014.
As I wrote to you then, there is a better option, let’s call it Option C. This option is about making your blog a source of unbiased truth, maybe the first in the world.
To this end, you need to be able to see that some of what “Snezana” wrote is correct. You successfully managed to see through the lies of the western media (a rare feat), and with your sharp observations and analysis skills you regularly expose their blunt lies and propaganda. But at the same time, you are still a victim of the extremist Muslim world, and you spread their set of lies.
Ultimately, you do no good by blocking one propaganda, while spreading another.
Option C should be to make your blog a source of unbiased truth. Expose the lies the western propaganda spreads against Russia, but also the lies Hezbollah and friends are spreading against Israel. Give the world this fresh view, which sadly doesn’t exist yet – currently all media sources I could find are polarized between (a) pro-Russia, anti “Zionist”, and (b) anti-Russia, pro “Zionist”. Create a (c) pro-Russia, pro-“Zionist”! This is where the truth is.
From any other place, but the place of truth, you will necessarily remain vulnerable on the morale level.
Nah — not pro-zionist. Zionism is just a form of perverted nationalism and it’s done a huge amount of harm. Jews don’t need their own country, at the expense of other people, any more than any other religion.
That’s my opinion — but then I’m an ‘asshat’ — verified by a few commenters some yeas back when I criticized Wesley Clark during his presidential run. Funny thing — no matter what I said about anything there were also those who thought I was an ‘asshat’ or worse. And there was never any shortage of people who make stuff up to say about to try to make me look bad. Heck, I’ve even been accused of being a positivist and materialist! Seems that a person can’t please everyone. No big deal, though.
Ja gluboko uvazhajo vashi stati. Znat’ vasha lichnost’ ne ochen-to vazhno, i mozhet byt’, luchshe skryvat’. Itak, A luchshe.
No need for any more formal “outing” Saker. I have gotten some very good information from you over the years and I am grateful for that. I also happened to agree with your analysis of complex situations.
One thing I could not help thinking reading the above is that it may be more than individuals that are giving you problems now. You can not have escaped the notion of the biggest empire the world has ever known and it would be easy for them to manoeuvre a few pawns into position to damage you.
Empires do not only wield brute power. They can be much more insidiously refined. I saw a documentary recently that as good as proved that the New Testament had been written under Titus Flavian (Roman emperor) to help pacify the Jews in Palestine originally. Look what that has meant for humanity over two millennia.
Greetings from el Rio de la Plata.
I´ve found your blog shortly after Ukraine imploded and It’s been the best way for me to get to know what´s really going on ever since.
I just wanted to thank you heartily for the essential work you do here, and to humbly suggest that you go with option A
The way I see it, there is no need for all the unwanted exposure you’d get by “coming out”, specially as a reaction to an attack by seriously deranged people.
I vote for option A .The really IMPORTANT thing now is security for you and your family !.Read about or consult about making yourself and your family SAFE(r) from all the crazies that may think it would be patriotic to hurt you or yours .
Thank you for your blog .Reading it I have learned a lot about Russian and Eastern European history , about the Mongol invasion (Tamerlane), and too many other things to print with my arthritic hands .
Keep safe ,continue being courageous ,keep writing about Russia and Eastern Europe ,dig interesting tidbits of History . ILLEGITIMI NON CARBORUNDUM !!!
Looks like you got a mess of A and B. How about a bit of each? Put a face and a first name & add what you choose come 2017. As far as defending yourself, you just did it, i’d not revisit it. Thank you again for sharing what interests you. Its more than interesting to me, its a full on education in some matters, a dip in the water on others. By now you ought to be pretty impressed with your roll call of friends. I am.
Dominic (Southern Oregon)
” … broadcasting war against the phantom “Anglo-Zionist empire” (in the cartoon where the Western sponsored ISIL are the good guys) and soliciting donations from his (chiefly left-leaning) supporters in exchange for kitschy wallets imprinted with the Saker image, and autographed copies of his book. Like any good apologist for Islam, Raevsky is also a rabid anti-Semite.”
I tried to warn you a couple of times about the certain Serbs. As most people here know, I am also a Serb.
Islamophobia is so deeply rooted in so many Serbs that I felt something bad is going to happen after Charlie Hebdo false flag. No matter to which extent the Zionists destroyed Serbia in 1999., for far too many Serbs any thought about Zionism being the prime evil of our time is incomprehensible. They cannot handle it.
Anyway, option A is what I suggest.
“Islamophobia is so deeply rooted in so many Serbs” in a very small minority yes, but the overall majority of Serbs no. You seem to forget that muslims fought alongside the VRS against the fascist regime in Sarajevo.
What is deeply rooted in most Serbs is:
1. to keep a watchful eye on the Turks & their “foreign policy”
2. to keep an eye on the those that are followers of Ustashi Fuehrer Ante Pavelic
Keep control and stay with plan A.
Choose Box B; it gives you extra credibility. Glenn Greenwald has never hidden and look at his cred as probably the best journalist on the planet while imagining all the hate directed at him–and not for his writing.
Don’t feed the trolls they say :-)
No need at all on my side for knowing more of you personally : the site is great, and if I disagree, I may say so in the comments. That’s as good as it gets, so why not forget about the two folks you mention ?
Hi saker , I never needed to know your name . I knew you through your keen anaylsis , obvious honesty and the love between you words , which has made your blog my most favourite site on the web . Go with option A .
Sounds like Mr Saker is a Islamophile and is not an easy person to get along with and does not tolerate a different opinion than his own on his web-site. But since it is HIS website and blog that his his prerogative. He is also intelligent with great insights that give his readers great pleasure to read.
Hmmm, a Russian Tea House somewhere in East-Central Florida sounds like a great idea. Fire up the samovar and have a great salon with Saker friends from all over the world. You can have DS9 watching parties on the big screen t.v. and invite Peter Lavelle and Dmitry Babich. Watching DS9 with Dmitry Babich would be really fun. This great scene should whet everybody’s appetite:
I know you PH.D. types don’t watch t.v., but you don’t know what you’re missing. Peter Lavelle would be intrigued to find out that Worf is a personification of Anubis. His name is a dog’s bark, that’s the giveaway.
Comrade, it is with great sadness that I read you have been betrayed. My worry is for your and your family’s security. My suggestion is neither option A or B. No need to divulge any more personal information by yourself. That would be foolish in the extreme and may put this blog in jeopardy. So please do not go along either of these two roads. As you indicated yourself, the chief purpose why readers come to this site is to learn about the profound events currently convulsing our world, and not about who you are. Let the barking dogs bark. The elephant just walks by them without paying any attention. Whatever damage has been done is done, and whatever those traitors will do in the future is not in our control. But comrade, please do not do any more damage by revealing any more information about your past and present circumstances. It is absolutely unnecessary besides being harmful to all of us.
Not because you should feel a need to respond to slander; life is too short and the internet is too big to attempt that. But because you’ve become quite a “star”, and so it is probably better to “come out” now, rather than waiting a year or two.
e.g. a number of other columnists reference you quite frequently, and being able to use your name for such things definitely sounds better.
(1) My suggestion is option A: do nothing. Don’t even have a ‘coming out’ in 2017. Why? Because the Vineyard of the Saker is a very good ‘brand’: the name is evocative and your articles, assessments, and editorial opinions should be channelled through that ‘brand’ name.
(2) When you fall out with people, don’t call them names and don’t use psychiatric labels. Leave that to our Western politicians.
(3) Don’t give any assistant the right of ‘full editorial freedom’. Assert editorial prerogative. After all, it is your blog. Draw a short list, based on your philosophy, of where you stand in respect to politics and religion. If one of your assistants wants to post something that he/she knows you may disagree with, he/she should discuss it with you first. If they stick to their guns, then they should create their own blog, but put word into your mouth and say things which you strongly disagree with.
(4) I don’t agree with your expression, ‘Anglo-Zionist’, even though there is some merit in it. The expression sounds different to the way you presumably mean it. You mean it in the narrow, technical sense of close political co-operation between elements in the West and the government of Israel; but that is not the way it sounds. ‘Anglo-Zionist’ sounds like a plot – a permanent plot – and a term of abuse.
(5) I agree with your respect for moderate Islam. There has always been a strand of moderate Islam, the Ottoman Empire caliphate c. 1500 (I learned that from watching Dr Adnan Siddiqui on the Internet, by the way), and Spain, were like that. And most Muslims are moderate.
(6) You have been let down, but that is to be expected. We all get let down sometimes. Sometimes we let other people down. Part of the human condition. Live and learn, and focus on your blog, which I highly value. Best wishes for the future.
I do not think it would matter either way. I’ve never given your real name or identity any serious thought. Since the 2014 Ukrainian coup your analysis has proved to be insightful and relevant. Use of the pseudonym Mark Twain did not affect Samuel Clements’ successes as an author and commentator.
I have nothing but respect for your work. Such brilliancy is rather unusual in this age where the mass media is nothing but a dog on a leash under the direction of egotistical monsters who don’t care about laws, life and decency. You do as you want to do and don’t worry about the deranged “well wishers” who did not know the time of their visitation.
I appreciate the time and pain you are taking in responding to a rather distasteful and irresponsible action and actors. With your initiative in responding here, I feel that my dignity has been restored. I received the note in an e-mail and as I began to read it, I realized the venom therein and deleted it without any more ado.
Don’t let such irresponsibility spoil your good work and your conscience. You and your family deserve the protection you have put in place. Peace and good cheer as you continue your important work. Blessings to you as you recover from losing your dear mother.
Have been following you for over a year….your analysis on Ukraine and Syria are rock solid….I know and appreciate your worldview on these important issues and they are litmus tests to show how your recent past views line-up. So any attempt by ill-wishers to fabricate them is transparent. Keep up the great work….look forward to 7Dec! Sorry for your loss of your mother-may her MEMORY BE ETERNAL
Option A. “They have their reward.”
Please accept belated condolences on your mother’s passing.
Can’t help wondering if you are descended from those Raevskys who were Pushkin’s friends, or are “only” a collateral relative.
Reminds me of the situation of Spengler over at Asia Times.
Anyone who cares already knows his name is David P. Goldman.
You’ve already outted yourself Saker. How you choose to proceed from here on is your decision but it won’t affect the value or usefulness of this blog — which I and so many other obviously exceptional people depend upon.
I only wish it were a physical place like a pub where you could serve the beer mugs and we could all sit together and discuss the happenings in these our most interesting times.
It seems to me that a lie DEMANDS the truth in response. Better to do that now, IMO
A… Keep doing what you do, Saker. Many thanks!
I say: Option A.
Speaking only for myself, but maybe this is true for others who visit this blog, I don’t really care that much who The Saker is.
It seems like more and more people are becoming aware of the BLOG. Will these people be part o f the target audience for the ongoing “outing”? Probably most of them will stumble on this blog, be interested in teh subject matter, occasionally see the moniker “The Saker” in other links at other blogs, and not have a burning curiosity to “unmask” the Saker.
for me the primary reason for curiostiy about the identify of The Skaer is not that I need to know a name or see a face, but I am curious as to the background the undergirds the analyses. Obviously, knowledge of Russian is a big part of it.
So, all I can say is that I personally am not that interested in exactly who The Saker is, and i would prefer the emphasis to stay on the debate and the Hegelian (!) dialogue and not get bogged down in identity politics (oh, he comes from X and did Z and so that is why he says what he says).
I don’t think this blog needs that kind of distraction.
Many to most commenters are on a spectrum of degrees of anonymity—gradually some of them reveal some aspects of their background and possible reasons for their point of view. It is a question of RELEVANCE of this info and also TRUST, and DESIRE to reveal some information that informs opinions. Although I often wish the “Anonymous” option were not possible, I also don’t like the idea of pushing people around and setting their bouindaries. People have the right to set t heir own boundaries. Acceding to the agenda of the outers seems to me a bit l like letting oneself be bullied.
So, I think Option A makes sense for both The Saker and for the Blog.
I was looking forward to the time when I would be able to clink a pint or a glass of wine or whatever (I prefer vodka) with yours. I was patient enough to wait for the time of your choosing. As you said, everything was already on the table put by yourself (including your physical appearance!). I was wondering why the attack did not come earlier since all the criticisms have been aired repeatedly either in constructive discussions on the forum or on other blogs.
The only reason I can see is that the audience of the blog has increased manifold and its influence is palpable and irritating on the propaganda front. Therefore, it has to be “exposed”, preferably by a whistleblower, “disappointed”, “disgruntled”, “disgusted” former member who actually “denounces” both to the authorities (Russian spy, Islamist, antisemite) and to the followers (CIA agent “groomed at the Paul H. Nitzke School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, the happy hunting ground of the likes of Madeleine Albright, Condoleeza Rice”, “involved in “disarmament negotiations which can only have been detrimental to the local Serbs”) the dubious character of the founder.
The case of WikiLeaks stands out: “public disagreement between founder and spokesperson Julian Assange and Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the website’s former German representative who was suspended by Assange. Domscheit-Berg announced on 28 September 2010 that he was leaving the organisation due to internal conflicts over management of the website”).
Now, Saker has become a “brand name” and got a life of its own. We should stick to it. The attacks must be ignored and starved of the publicity oxygen.
So, definitely (even strongly) I vote for Option A.
To flush your mental toilet, I recommend my usual medicine: a large glass of vodka on an empty stomach! Nazdarovya!
You look exactly as I thought you would. The letter from these evil people did not reveal anything shocking. You were correct that most people would be able to deduce much about you from your writing. Your mistake was trusting people because of some Slavic/Orthodox alliance. I went to their webpage…it reeks of pure evil.
Option A. Continue as usual.
Much appreciate your blog. You have done humanity a service.
Is there an Option C? Ignore everything and just proceed staying your course. This is your blog. Noone else’s. You don’t owe anyone anything. People come here for your analyses, not your personal details. So long as they get what they want, they don’t give a hoot about your bio or history. My 2 cents.
You look exactly as I imagined, And I deduced a lot from your texts so I am not surprised by any of these “revelations”
Keep up the good work.
Ignoring is the best weapon in this occasion.
Option a okay!
There’s a lot of political writing on the internet. Most is opinion, much is fact, and some is slander.
We readers have to learn to discriminate between the many sources when it comes to deciding who and what to believe.
For me, my decisions are mostly based on how accurate sources have been with their earlier predictions, evaluations, and comments. To give three examples: 1) I don’t belive anything the US gov’t or MSM say or write about matters the US gov’t has a political interest in. Experience has taught me that they lie whenever they think it’s necessary; 2) I’m cautious when reading Gordon Duff of Veterans Today because he’s often not able to back up his statements, even though many may prove to be correct; and 3) I put a high degree of trust in what the Corbett Report and the Boiling Frogs Post write or say because I’ve yet to come across a matter where I think either have lied to their audience.
I put your blog, The Saker, in the latter category. On the subjects that interest you, I feel I can trust you and your reporting. About political matters I believe you’re honest. I hope you always remain truthful and forthright. Other columnists on your blog seem to be accurate reporters.
As to the flap with what’s-her-name? and her husband, I say, who cares? and consider the source.
My experience has been that most people make up their own minds about others. They don’t adopt another’s derogatory opinions unless the defamer is one they respect, one they’re beholden too, or one who has the same beliefs they had all along. People you’re trying to reach on your blog won’t believe or respect her.
As for you “coming out,” it’s of no interest to me. As for telling us more than what you’ve written about yourself on your blog already, I couldn’t care less. What I do care, as I’ve stated above, is that you continue to be an honest reporter of fact and opinion and beholden to nothing but a reasonable person’s truth.
As always follow your instincts, and keep your intellectual integrity.
A Love song, for the loved ones who have left us, from the land of Aztlan,
Don’t worry about it, Saker. That westernized crazy might be not as crazy as you think though. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if she is working for some western NGO. I can see she’s even married to a Westerner. She is obviously liberal, that much is certain. Just don’t call her Serb. No westernized liberal creature coming even if it comes from our pool can be Serb (and I am hoping that to be case with Russians too).
A person might be born in some culture yet have no soul of that culture at all. Traitors, vermin and degenerates they are called. She did unveil herself with her passionate care and worry for Parisians, that’s for sure. Imagine that, a person volunteering on a blog dedicated to resistance to the West is so concerned about that retribution attack on the West. Bad, bad Muslims for attacking the West. No Serb would ever react in defense of those who wronged his kind. Her reaction revealed everything. Like I said, high probability she is a western NGO operative. Either that, or she indeed is crazy.
By the way, we have many of such westernized liberal crazies here in the Balkans too, even some former junkies married to Westerner ambassadors and spreading liberal Western gospels around here (and not all of those westernized crazies leave for the West unfortunately).
Well, Saker, I admit I am confused but interested! I have had arguments with you via the comment section back in the days when you yourself moderated. Under various pseudonyms, I accused you of being CIA and of being anti-Novorossiya, of being a war-monger and so forth, (you really got angry with me a couple of times!) interspersed with comments in which I praised you for helping expand awareness of the Ukrainian massacres in Donbass. Even earlier today, I was tempted to accuse you of being a paid agent of the transational corporate financial elite, who hire you to falsely blame the worldwide chaos on the United States, aka “Anglo-Zionist empire”, rather than on the elite itself, which is using the US and EU puppet governments for its own purpose of global dominance and/or major world war to jumpstart the debt-ridden economy, and whose agents have penetrated the Kremlin as well. In this imagined scenario, your role would be to deflect the blame from the financial elite onto the hapless US government, a task at which you have excelled.
It was also suspicious that your theme was destructively, rather than constructively, anti-American while you enjoyed life in America, and that you remained anonymous when other commentators are not afraid to be who they are.
So I would say to you, Saker, DO NOT COME OUT OF THE CLOSET AT ALL! I am sure many of your readers would prefer to cling to the fantasy that you are a student of theology and man of God leading us to the light.
This is all meant light-heartedly of course. Thanks for being there, in whatever form you may or may not appear.
Option C. Ignore them and stay the course. I recommend that you not write extensive autobiographical material … That can be used to stir up unnecessary controversies against you.
I find the timing of this all very curious. They published that spiteful article in the immediate aftermath of your mother’s death. (How dishonorable.) Also, this is the same time as a major escalation in the Syrian war.
Don’t respond to their allegations any more than you’ve already done. “Don’t wrestle with a pig: you both get dirty and the pig likes it.”
I think it would be nice to post a brief bio of you. Things that are already known in this blog, like you are from Russia, live in Florida, were a military analyst for the US, etc….
Save the rest for 2017 as in plan B.
In the meantime, just ignore those people. I agree with you that issues count, not people.
Option A: looks like the sensible thing, giving time for the bull-dust to settle and then clarify, leaving this episode as a tiny footnote.
We all have differences and disputes, partnerships break apart, passions flair, but in all things trust and honour should be above the rest, and despite any hate, some respect. This matter does not deserve respect, the attacks are personal and for that reason contemptible.
PS the husband looks like he has been sent on a merry chase, as silly as he demands appear to be they are definitely of domestic origin.
Best of luck look forward to reading the 2017 piece.
There will always be ill personalities. Use your Christian principles and pray for their return to health. Engaging them per option B is to “kick the tar-baby” and injure yourself and the Saker Community.
You and God know the truth. That is enough. So choose A, and then, you will find that the Saker community values you for being you… not for kicking a visibly tarred and ill individual. Life is short, save your spirit for continuing your good works.
Saker, So sorry to hear about the loss of your mother… I understand… I wish I could express in words adequate condolences… You and yours are in my prayers. May the grace, mercy, and peace of our dear Lord Jesus be richly poured out upon you and yours. jdh
I preferred you anonymous.
You look somewhat how I always pictured you, but my imagination had you with a rounder face and older and beefier. I didn’t give you facial hair, though. How did I miss on that?
The picture with the beer *immediately* reminded me of a couple of people, neither which I liked.
Both highly intelligent but both tooth-smacking arrogant.
But who the heck wants to like everyone? Wouldn’t it be nauseating if everyone were nice.
So, now I see you differently. You have always made it clear that you would be aghast if people accepted something simply because The Saker said it. Did I ever reach the point where I did that – simply accepted what you said? Doubt it. But now I most assuredly will not.
With all that being said, it is only *one* picture. And who can’t find a bad picture of themselves that they don’t like?
Forgot to add, I wouldn’t worry about Serbian Saker blog, Saker. Doubt many read it. I have only opened it twice. And I have to say, I do believe she is not totally wrong about this part of you, Saker:
“I believe Russians are our brothers but I don’t believe that Andrei Raevsky is one of them. He is a hybrid, a GMO if you will, of Russian soul fertilized by select Western ideology.”
I sensed your liberal westernized soul too. The first time I got here, I sensed it. It’s not your fault though. You have lived all your life in the West and have been subjected to western “values” from the moment you were born. Of course you couldn’t have escaped the blight. Perhaps you are just “a good Christian” (in liberal Western meaning) and you love your enemy. Could be that I suppose. It’s blight either way. You don’t love your enemy if you want to live or protect your people, way of life, culture, land, etc. You don’t welcome or greet with kindness those not of your kind/people or not friendly to you or your kind. You know that. You are not stupid. That is why I proposed here once or twice a thought about reforming the Orthodoxy. Now it could as well be that those degenerate teachings about “loving your enemy” came not from Jesus but from Westerners… from Franks who corrupted it after their had settled in Rome/Vatican — meaning that Jesus was talking/thinking about his fellow Christians when he said it, and those liberals in the West, like the true spawn of Satan they have been 1 or 1,5 thousand years ago like they are now, twisted, distorted and perverted his words in order to subvert his teachings. The blight is recognized and known. The light of our Lord Father revealed it as such: the mind he gave us and logic to serve us are so clearly revealing the corruption. One cannot remain oblivious to that.
First, my condolences for your loss. Nothing is easy at a time like this and having to deal with this sort of distraction does not help.
On your options, I would say Option A but, since you have already been “outted”, perhaps even that needs to be rethought. I don’t see why you would need to rebutt any further than you already have.
Good luck and bon courage.
Stick to your plan. Blackmail is a felony.
There is a reason that the rules of evidence preclude a prosecutor from asking a defendant “Sir, when did you stop beating your wife.”
There is a saying I use – that it nearly impossible to prove the falsity or non-existence of an asserted subjective “fact.”
I frequently suggest to people in difficult situations that they make a decision in which they control the outcome – don’t leave the outcome in the hands of another person.
I once attended a “personal improvement” class in which the creator of the program referred to our innate intuitive abilities, which some may refer to as their “gut feelings or “gut instinct”, as our “A mind”, and he always said to “listen to your A mind.”
It’s also like the “rule of thumb” for taking an SAT-type test; you are taught that after you have eliminated all answers that you know are wrong but are unsure which of the remaining answers is right to go with the answer that at first glance seemed correct.
Finally, I come from a large family, and when an argument with my siblings broke out and we ran to Mommy to “solve it” my late Mom would often say that silence is the best answer.
Hopefully all of the above helps you to evaluate the dilemma you face and decide on the course of action that best suits your objectives, and salves your mind and soul.
you have been outed… but…
I see in Saker’s photo an uncanny likeness to Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy, who said “The most important knowledge is that which guides the way you live your life.”
Do Option A, two more years will go by fast anyway. Don’t worry about these clowns, Saker. Revealing your identity over a false flag like Charlie Hebdo and “anti-Semitism” clearly shows how closed minded these people are. I bet they never heard of the fact one of the survivors of the shooting said a masked gunman had blue eyes… And yet they believe that it was these “barbaric Muslims”, who would be stupid enough to bring a passport, and accidentally leave it in the car for the police to pick up.
Interesting: I wondered who you are. Your reporting on Ukraine was good, but I had trouble understanding your agenda. It seemed to me that you weren’t interested in winning the war as much as you were interested in winning the peace. Now I realize why. After all, winning the peace can be, in the long term, far more effective than winning the war. Fortunately, Ukraine’s call for international peace keepers has failed.
I recall your intense opposition, to the point of denial, when Putin was preparing to commit to Syria. I said that it would take blood, iron, and will while you said he wouldn’t engage. I wondered why you thought as you did, and now I understand. If Assad lost the US, & NATO would control the peace or what would pass for peace in the western media.
At this moment all of NATO is making a move to enter Syria to control the peace or prevent Russia from establishing peace. Judging from one of your major papers, written for the UN, this is your field of expertise, and I think this is your agenda.
I suggest the following UNIDIR paper: Managing Arms in Peace Processes: Aspects of Psychological and Intelligence by Andrei Raevsky
I don’t have the degrees that you have, but I’m thoroughly trained by the US Army in intelligence, and physiological operations. When you first began your site I told my associates that your intel. sources were too good to be an accident, and I was right. You’re not a blogger who emerged from the chatter to found an influential site. You’re deliberate, and you’re too far into “them” to be without purpose.
Time will tell.
You mean like ‘extraordinary rendition’ – or torture as us civilians call it?
no, PSYOPS have nothing to do with renditions.
My concerns about the Russian intervention in Syria are now, alas, proven justified. I have just written an analysis for the Unz Review which I shall also post here, make sure to check it out. The bottom line is this: Syria is inside CENTCOM territory and that puts Russia at a huge disadvantage. The Turks are now using this, and NATO is giving them cover. This is a very bad situation for Russia.
The bottom line remains that Russia/Putin are in to win the war, not just a battle, and that using military force is not always the best option even when this is doable in purely military terms (like in the Ukraine).
As for my purpose – simple: to make a difference, to speak the truth as I see it, to resist imperialism in all its forms (not just the US one!) and to do whatever I personally can to resist the evil overtaking our planet. Sounds naive? Maybe. But I am comfortable with these objectives and I can look at a mirror without shame :-)
It is hard to tell what is real anymore isn’t it?
Everyone has an agenda including you and I, but many people refuse to believe that for their own reasons, and they are nature’s own tools.
I am having grave concerns about many of those spunky little sites that popped up after the truth began leaking out.
I mean really, the official MSM lies had become so absurd anyway, reading them was like being shot thorough the looking glass.
I like the Saker, and some of the others, but we knew he was an insider analyst, he told us. When dealing in these maters with such sources, one can only proceed with caution.
They have for whatever their reasons, done a lot of good in popularizing truth seeking and careful reasoning for good or for ill.
It is always nice to meet a fellow cynic.
Sorry late on this (was up most of last night with a difficult canine delivery, over slept and spent today playing catch up).
This really sucks [rotten eggs]. They left their usual calling card, though, with the hostility to the term “anglozionist”, and the standard psychotic zionazi mantra that those who are not Islamophobic are all anti-Semites. This is central to these zionazi smear campaigns. The victim fails to kow tow to the main twins of zio-propaganda of Islamophobia and “no Zionist/Jewish connection to it and anything else”, then the zios smear them then.
I wouldn’t dismiss this “couple” as just some egotistical psychos, “lone kooks gunning you down”, they are standard zionazi smear tactics. Very organized – ask Gilad Atzmon. And always of two sorts. The fanatic spouting the slander, and the “pacifist” recommending you do nothing to counter the slander.
These zionazis attacking you, not just the phony couple, will make sure any reference to you will also reference the slander. If you shine this on, people unfamiliar with your work will encounter mountains of “sources” on the web slandering you, with silence for rebuttal.
You may not be able to out shout S.W.A.R.M., but setting the record straight will certainly help your friends set the record straight and provide those undecided novices with an alternative to that of the zionazis.
Pray on it, of course. You asked for “other ideas” so I’ll say the compromise position that occurred to me as most reasonable a few seconds after first reading your post, this morning. You have already countered the venom of their character assassination; on the level of ethos, you are winning the rhetorical fight. Anyone of sound mind who considers today’s response to and inclusion of their attack is bound to yield them no benefit of the doubt on future fabrications. Haven’t they already shot their wad, so to speak? Any spinning of your record on further points will be taken as further evidence of their ill will, not of any kernel of truth they may be approaching. In the big picture, the outing of your identity changes the game, but does not really pass the “so what(?)” test. Alexander Mercouris for example refers to you respectfully as “the Saker” without feeling the need to explain even to a diverse audience why he uses your nom de voyage rather than a personal name. After today, however, your real name must be considered a valid footnote. What’s done is done. There is nothing apparent to me that has altered at the level of intelligence and discourse. Sadly, the self-publishing of your personal bio has little bearing on the lost advantages of even a thin anonymity. It can be regarded as a separate issue altogether. Unless, of course, your expectations of income from book sales and the like may be affected by petty slander. Then, if there is some advantage to setting the record straight sooner rather than later, to improve your comfort level, this is worth considering. From my point of view, the entire question should be set aside until well after the holidays and not get in the way of your grieving or quality of life. But I want to raise a question. Is it really important to you to stick strictly to a plan and how would it feel to ignore the magic of ten in numerology? Can the narcissistic adventure very well be begun to create some gem-like textual account on or around 1 May, 2016, at the nine-year celebration? I would vote for this option: A-prime. If you feel it better to stick to your guns, then A.
Option A. We know you by your work already.
It’s usually best to ignore trolls. I know, it can’t always be done, not easily. But if their websites have nothing, then no one will hang out there. A few other malcontents, perhaps.
Damn the trolls, and onward thru the fog!!!
Since I already “voted” I think it’s OK to tell this story.
On the assumption that the Saker was hiding in plain view (he admitted to ‘thin’ anonymity), I decided that his name must be connected to the Slavic root for “saker.” Balabanov and Balobanov are common enough Russian surnames. I thought I had the Saker pegged as a certain Petr Balabanov somewhere in northern Florida…..the trail went cold, and, well, you see, I am not one of the pure ones. I admit I was curious about the identity of the Saker, and I did Google to try to find his identity. But I only Googled a little bit. Even so, Aleksei I hope that we might have a beer together in that bar should our paths ever cross.
On the assumption that the Saker was hiding in plain view
I was. But not in the way you think. Try finding out!
I like your picture. You look like a Swiss! I’ve often wondered what you look like.
This is the first comment I’ve made on a blog or website in years. The reason I stopped was that they so often devolve to personal attacks as has happened in your comment section, though not in this case of your Serbian friends.
I thought your “Why I am not Charlie” piece was brilliant. This seems to be what brought this shit storm against you from this couple. They seem to be islamophobes who think the Charlie Hebdo ‘free speech satire’ is cool. I don’t! I also noticed that they, Charlie Hebdo, are still at it with their tasteless ‘satire’ of the downing of the Russian passenger flight in Egypt.
This is where I could get personal, but I don’t want to go there. Just keep doing what you are doing. Now that you are back from your vacation you have a lot of catching up to do. I can’t wait to hear your take on recent events like the Turkish arms for oil game and shooting down Russian planes. I’m sure you will have a lot to say. And, yeah, you’ll probably piss some people off. So what!
Condolences on your Mother. Your photo shows a kind face indicating a good son. I appreciate your work and vote for Option A. Why bother answering any more at this time. We can judge your character by the article your post.
Saker, this blog has never been about who you are as in: name, location, personal history. Always it has been the message. The analysis, first from you, and then from the many wonderful authors and commenters, has been the bona fides of this website.
I recommend that you stick to Plan A: continue as per your original plans, and ignore these people. And if it is not them, there will surely be others. The very quality of this website and the very dangerous kinds of thinking going on here will guarantee attacks.
Do not alter your behavior on account of these people. The old saying is: “Do not wrestle with a pig; you will get covered in mud, and the pig will enjoy it.”
It’s your call.
What I love about being behind the Great Firewall of China is that The Vineyard of the Saker is not blocked in China. Now that is quite some thing. I am absolutely sure the Chinese know about you as they know where I go on the web, and I am sure, also, I am not the only one visiting from China.
I once upon a time took on a very powerful government institution in my home country and won the battle. My prize, from them, for winning in their own court was that they arranged that I would forfeit any right of compensation, and I found myself a marked man with various attempts made on my life. They slandered my name far and wide. That was some 3 decades ago. My own brother was not so lucky, they took him out just before he was to blow the whistle. But my satisfaction was that a law was enacted that the stopped that government, in their tracks, from extorting tens of thousands of people. In that period I lost my own family, my livelihood, all my savings and assets despite the fact that micro battle I waged was for my family, for my right to support them. Yet, my personal loss was a great big win for thousands of families, then and today and tomorrow.
I did what I knew was right and the greatest good for the greatest number. Therefore I encourage you to do likewise, but it’s totally your decision, your choice, as it was mine.
It is individuals who forward the progress of mankind, not groups.
Please tell us more. Your story is amazing. If what you state is true, that makes you are hero. Do you have a blog?
Holy Mackeral – 6 pages of responses – !!!~~
Well, I myself opt for # A – Number 1 – the first option – May 1st 2017 –
And dispose of all this nasty sillinesses in the way they should be disposed of….by ignoring them.
Rabid Balkans – I don’t even know if Serbia is a Balkan state, but I heard that term from a Dutchman. And it sounds like it fits your former associate – that woman –
I’m glad you got back through the American border…I actually have even been scared of going into the States because of my time spent on Saker’s blog..I thought I might be apprehended by the Homeland Security forces…for just reading the blog….
So I’m glad you moved back into Paradise (Florida) without any problemo.
The snitche’s ‘expose’ of you didn’t even really say very much…all it was, was an expose…a treachery….a stab in the back…
And being on Sputnik, I’m sure President Putin knows about you by now…
Congratulations Saker !!~~ I love that name.
Bye for now,
You should abstain from ridiculous and poisonous phrases as ‘rabid Balkans’- just shows your huge ignorance…
That you have adopted it from a Duch person- well-enough said…
Surprising that you have learned so little from reading this blog…
What do you know of the culture?
Nothing, as you claim you do not even know if Serbia is there, in the Balkans…
So much from myself, a proud Balkanian…
I will comment no more, as the real reason for coming here was only to say that it matters not who Saker is, what his name is etc.
The content matters, and that is why we are here
well, I’m glad I’m a half a planet away from you…you Balkan
mayb i’m a sentamentalist, but if there is a goal and a plan to obtain it, y not stick to it?!! so my option is ‘A’.
my view is that, yes there’ll be setbacks and in this case, “gossip,” coming out, but let them stew on it.
Anonymous on December 02, 2015 · at 9:55 pm UTC summed it up very well in quoting – mcintyre v. ohio elections commission 514 u.s. 334 (1995) justice stevens writing for the majority.
In high school we studied “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain (nom de plume of Samuel Langhorne Clemens) and “Animal Farm” by George Orwell (nom de plume of Eric Arthur Blair). Their use of pen names in no way changed the importance of the novels.
Most people who read this blog, read it because of The Saker’s analysis of contemporary events. It matters not that The Saker is a pseudonym for Andrei Raevsky. The Saker’s writings stand and are evaluated on their contents and not by the fame or infamy of someone named Andrei Raevsky.
Should The Saker choose to write about Andrei Raevsky either now or in the future, fine, it will be interesting, but it has no effect on The Saker’s words.
In conclusion, how can I not trust a man with a smile on his face, a full set and a beer in his hand. This is, and should remain “The Saker’s Blog”.
Go for Option A. Castro had it right. The less we know about you the better. Otherwise, gossip always distracts from the concepts, and “familiarity breeds contempt.”
There might be a lot of developments in the world in 2017 for you to write about. Just write your bio whenever there is enough “down time” to do so. If that is now, then there is nothing wrong with doing so now.
Oh yeah, and I can’t resist saying….boy are you ever Slavic looking…that’s amazing…
Dear (who is the) Saker,
You sir are a gentleman with a wife and kids who lives in Florida and has the brains (and heart) to see things as they are and not as they seem to be.
The rest; is your personal private life as is with every man and woman in this world.
I understand your situation and it is not pleasant especially the timing. I personally don’t care about your private life, I ‘m here for the information that is provided by you and the “teams”. Decent people disregard scandalous news and also the perpetrators of it; so I wouldn’t waste your time with them.
Since you have been brought into the “light” I would suggest a small addition to the Blog in a section called something like “About Saker” where you have a brief CV of sorts mainly outlining your bona fides so that it is clear as to your background for providing analysis. Keep the personal part to “I have a lovely wife and 3 children”, and maybe where you were born and raised. If people want to know if you are “credible” they can judge from that.
PS: My condolences on the passing of your Mother.
I’ll be brief.
I come here because I want to be informed of serious world events and will continue to do so.
You can tell a lot about people by their actions and comments.
It saddens me when people act irrationally especially when the intent is to spite others but neither I or you can change the world for the better if our intent is to change every human on the planet.
Therefore, move on and let these people continue on their downward spiral.
You bring a lot of faith and happiness to the lives of many people. Just remember that!
Welcome back Saker. I am sorry that horrible woman and her husband put you and your family through that ordeal; as if you didn’t have enough to deal with the loss of your mother.
I feel though that you needn’t have pointed out how that awful person’s actions aren’t reflective of her people as a whole. We in the Saker definitely know better.
As a Muslim, I feel I should thank you for informing and educating us about what really happened in Yugoslavia and what the empire did to the Serbs. We do indeed sometime have that “My Ummah, right or wrong!” attitude. So thank you. Also, thank you for always being respectful, fair and compassionate on matters pertaining to Islam and Muslims. May Allah bless you and your family.
P.S. For some reason, I always did imagine you with a beard hahaha.

In these two short sentences you have justified all my efforts because even if I could convince ONE Muslim of that, then my life has had a purpose. I will also tell you that now even more than in the past, I am still convinced that Islam is *NOT* the problem and that judging Islam by the Wahabis is as wrong as judging Christians by the Papacy. By the way, some Christians, including some Serbs, also have a “my Christianity, right or wrong” attitude and they rather whitewash the crimes of the Papacy and the Crusaders than condemn them. So human nature is the same everywhere. These efforts at whitewashing always end up backfiring at their authors because, as you well know, the biggest and most dangerous enemy of Islam is Wahabism just as the Papacy is the worst enemy of all other forms of Christianity.
As for my beard – this is the traditional Orthodox way, and it is also the traditional Russian way. For years I used to work shaved with a tie and suit, now I am bearded with a Tshirt, shorts and flip-flops :-)
Peace and cheers,
Tried and true tactic
Discredit the messenger and you discredit the message.
Ignore it you lose – They will effectively discredit you with the majority of people who don’t get too deep into all the details
Fight it fully you lose – It takes you off focus of your message and begins to consume you defending yourself.
Best response in my opinion is continued and small:
Stay focused on message, always bring attack on you back to message. “What does this have to do with the facts being presented on such and such. Good reporting with multiple sources. You are not the story, you are reporting it. The story, the truth, the message is not you. It’s bigger than you. Seen too many people let pride become weakness.
Jesus is an example. Jesus was a messenger everyone agrees on that. Some believe he was the Son of God, others do not. For Jesus, it wasn’t about him, it was about spreading the message. He was betrayed and ultimately crucified but… his message is still being spread 2015 years later. That is effective. So effective that his death is signified in our dating system by believers and non believers alike. 2015 AD (After Death). That is how you win. You give yourself to truth and the message.
Take your own time, we have hell lot of time and ignore the scumbags, there will always be people who will want to look superior. Straight trees are cut first saker and please don’t give in to them.
A, definitely A.
” Being neither Charlie nor prepared to massacre satirical staff, I was somewhat in a (sic) quandry.”
Dishonest people false dichotomy quite smoothly don’t they?
These are interesting times. It is hard to tell what is real anymore.
When I like someone’s work, and share it, I am called a dupe, a Pollyanna, a Putin fan boy, and naïve.
When I express some cynicism or examine connections or motives about a project, I am scolded by the righteous, sanctimonious “trusting people” and called a “spewing conspiracy theorist”.
The key is in the tone and the logic of their screeds.
Truth is a spirit.
go with option A – don’t play the game they want, it’s childish.
you are better than that.
“….prove my non-duplicity by lying to my readers about his wife and saying that my trust in her was well-placed…” ???!!
How do you prove non-duplicity by engaging in duplicity?? LOL
Sad re the compromising of your family though – that is seriously out of order.
I blog under a pseudonym also for the same reason. To do that without your consent is a shitty thing to do.
looking forward to the ‘narcissistic post’!! LOL
and that is one KILLER beard!! :)
all the best from the belly of the Empire’s pet puppet state (the UK)
PS – finally started my long-planned blog :)
and a few of those 173 emails are from me (proton)!
Few of us have had personal contacts with The Saker, and for all I care, his personal name is truly of no significance, apart from the fact that making it public compromises the safety and privacy of himself and his family
Furthermore, when two disputing parties go to a judge, who doesn’t know either one of them, the astute judge cannot leave his judgement to conflicting stories from both sides when each needs proof and substantiation.
The judge therefore must use his character analysis skills to see who’s telling the truth and who isn’t. He has to look for clues everywhere.
When one party displays treacherous actions, displays vengeance and seeks blood, when he/she stabs the opponent in the back when least expected, or even worse, when the opponent has suffered something like the loss of a mother, then such acts speak volumes about who is who.
I think I made myself clear.
Choice A or B? The choice I take is in supporting The Saker in doing what he wants.
