On March 1st of last year I wrote an article entitled “Obama just made things much, much worse in the Ukraine – now Russia is ready for war” in which I wrote the following: “I hope and pray that Obama, and his advisers, stop and think carefully about their next step, because make no mistake about that RUSSIA IS READY FOR WAR.” Using bolded red caps was my hope to get everybody’s attention, including the various US analysts reading my blog and thinking that maybe I knew a little something about Russia. This was the first time in my (now ex-) career as a military analyst that I delivered such a warning, and it is a sweet irony for me that it was made publicly and not behind all sorts of secrecy walls.
I STILL very much believe that Russia is ready for war. And by “ready” I mean two things:
a) Russia is morally and psychologically willing to use military force to defend herself against the Empire
b) Russia does have the military means to defend herself against the Empire.
I fully agree with a recent article on Russia Insider entitled “NATO Would Probably Lose A War Against Russia“. I don’t know who the “Shellback” who wrote this article is, but I can immediately recognize a fellow “cold warrior” who, like me, must have spent many hours studying the works of V.G. Reznichenko and David Glantz and who knows what he is talking about. You can take what “Shellback” wrote to the bank.
Recently, the Times of London posted an article about threats allegedly made by senior Russian intelligence officers to their western colleagues. Since the Times’ website is behind a pay-wall, I will direct you to this reprint from The Australian. Let me immediately say, that all the details given about the alleged meeting sound totally true to me and that I have no reason whatsoever to doubt that this time around, The Times actually printed a true story. I am aware of the fact that Putin’s spokesman, Peskov, has immediately denied the story, but in this (very rare) case, I still believe the western corporate media. Why? Because everything in the story is absolutely credible. In particular these excerpts:
Among the “key messages delivered by Russian participants” was a warning that any military move by the West on Crimea would trigger a Russian response, possibly involving nuclear force. “The United States should also understand it would also be at risk.”
The Russian delegation said that any NATO build-up in the Baltics would prompt an increase in Russia’s “nuclear posture”, according to notes drawn up by a US participant. The warning is baldly recounted: “Russia will use its nuclear weapons against NATO.”
When discussing possible Russian action in the Baltics, it reported: “Russian members mentioned a spectrum of responses from nuclear to non-military.”
The most trenchant Russian remarks on eastern Europe were delivered by the former military intelligence chief Valentin Korabelnikov, who remains a senior adviser to the defence ministry. Since the GRU masterminded the annexation of Crimea, he is likely to have been involved in the planning. He said that the biggest threat to Russia was US activity along its borders, according to notes taken by Kevin Ryan, a retired US brigadier-general who served as defence attaché in Moscow.
Most people in the West, especially those who have not yet ditched their Idiot-Tube, are getting influenced by propaganda, whether they realized it or not. Just living in a highly propagandized society makes you absorb a lot of that propaganda, as if by osmosis. One such propaganda myth is about the condition and readiness of the Russian military. Of course, it is a very cozy “feel good” feeling to “know” that your military is just “the best”, as if by definition, but the reality is very different and ignoring it is very dangerous. Here are the raw facts:
1. In the Ukraine Russia has a *huge* terrain advantage over the US/NATO, simply because the Ukraine is right across Russia’s border. NATO simply does not have the power projection capability or numbers to intervene in the Ukraine.
2. The Russian Ground Forces are much tougher, better trained and better commanded that their NATO counterparts.
3. The Russian Air Force is more capable that NATO’s, both in terms of personnel and in terms of equipment.
4. Russian Air Defense Forces are the best on the planet.
5. Russian nuclear forces are much more modern and capable than the US ones.
6. Russian special forces are, by far, the most capable on the planet and, unlike their US counterparts, their combat record (Operation Storm-333, “Polite Green Men” in Crimea) proves it. In any Ukrainian war, they will play a key role.
[Sidebar: Western propaganda always makes loud claims about this or that kind of training, this or that kind of weapons, this or that kind of quotes and statements about super-dooper, super-secret, “best in the world”, special forces, but I simply look at the combat record. You can train all you want, and spend 100 days in the desert eating lizards, but unless you have some real war time combat success to show, I don’t take your claims seriously. Recently, a commentator wrote that the best infantry in the world was the Australian one, because they had learned their skills from the Bushman. Great. One look at the territory currently controlled by the Bushmen and the size of Russia will tell you everything you need to know about that claim :-]
Now, make no mistake: Russia does not want war. If Russia wanted war, Putin would have sent the Russian military into the Donbass last year. In fact, Russia does not even want another “cold” war in Europe. But Russia is prepared to defend herself, if the AngloZionist Empire insists on making her submit to its hegemony.
As for Crimea, it is simply not negotiable. Any attempt to break Crimea away from Russia will be considered as an attack on Russia. You might as well try to seize the Kremlin.
Lastly, notice that I said “Russia is ready”. Not “Putin is ready”. Not only is Putin supported by something in the range of 85%+ of Russians, even though those who oppose him (LDPR, Communist Party, Just Russia) fully and totally support Putin’s refusal to surrender to the Empire. The size of the pro-western part of the Russian population must be roughly in the 3%-5% max, not even enough to get one single deputy into the Duma.
Let me explain something about Russian history here.
Russia began as a rather small principality, much smaller and weaker than Poland. And then Russia got invaded by a multi-ethnic mix of nomads from the East. Russia did not have any natural borders. Not only that, but most of Russia is, in military terms, much more similar to an ocean than to dry land: huge forests, infinite steppes, extreme climates, etc. Finally, unlike western Europe, where a surrendering force was usually spared, in the vast expanses of Russia, surrender was simply not an option. Surrender meant death. The Russian gene pool was directly affected by this selective pressure. As was Russian culture.
[Sidebar: my daughter always laughs that Russian songs are all about only three topics: love, the Motherland and war. She is right. War and everything it represents in an integral part of the Russian culture as is sacrificing your life for the Motherland.]
For those still dubious, I would recommend machine translating this page. It is an analysis of all the wars and battles Russia fought between 1700 and 1940. The results are clear:
For 250 years of its existence of the Russian military fought 392 regular army battles against the Swedes, the French, the Germans, the Turks, the Poles, the Tatars, the Finns, various ethnic groups from the Caucasus, the Japanese, the Chinese, the Austrians, the Hungarians, the British, the Italians, and Central Asian nations. Of those Russia won – 279.
Russia only lost 3 out of 34 wars:
3. Polish-Soviet 1920.
And in most these battles Russia has inferior numbers of troops and inferior weapons.
So much for the usual western myths about “winning by numbers” or “General Winter” (these myths are the output of bruised western egos, not military analysis).
This history creates a paradox: Russians absolutely hate war and even fear it, but in war they are determined and fearless. Furthermore, the “ocean like” terrain results in the Russians being unbeatable at two things: maneuver warfare and intelligence/reconnaissance. As for “retreat” on an ocean-like terrain, it has very different meaning than in traditional land warfare.
I believe that this is what the Russian intelligence officers were trying to convey to their counterpart at the meeting reported by The Times: we don’t want war, but if you force us to, we will defeat you.
You might ask about nuclear war – would the Russians really risk death rather than surrender? After all, the USA *does* really have the means to wipe most Russian cities off the world map! Again, the answer is simple: Russia has almost always fought an existential threat. Sure, the US has nukes, but Hitler’s project for Russia was hardly any better (to turn the Russian subhumans into slaves for the Master’s Race). Unlike westerner, who have hardly ever faced a real existential threat (Hitler does not count – he was very much “our son of a bitch”), Russians have, numerous times. That is the big advantage of imperialism, especially for a power protected by the seas: wars happen away from home. In a nuclear war, both Russia and the USA would lose 20-50 million people. Now take a guess, which country is more capable of loosing anywhere between 1/5 to 1/2 of its population and then survive the nuclear winter and radioactive fallout?
In conclusion, I want to say the following to those who will dismiss all of the above as nonsense and still believe that the western military forces could prevail against Russia: you are welcome to dismiss all of the above, but please realize that the vast majority of Russians really do believe it! And as a direct result of that – they will not submit, they will not “blink”, they will not surrender and they will fight you with everything they have.
This topic makes me sick to my stomach. I hate it. I am also frustrated to tears that having survived the Cold War, I am now facing by far the most dangerous international situation since the Cuban Missile Crisis (and then, at least, everybody was terrified; today the propaganda zombified public is utterly unaware of what is happening). The only reason I feel that I have to repeat all these things is in the hope that somebody somewhere will take my warnings seriously and warn his/her bosses.
If you are that person – please do the right thing now.
This is an unflinchingly frank and accurate assessment of the global strategic scenario as of 2015.
Who knew that oblivious American Neocons and Neoliberals would bring the world even closer to nuclear holocaust than during the Cuban Missile Crisis?
Recognising the potential for larger conflicts to erupt (those listed above as well as tensions over the S China Sea, Taiwan, India with Pakistan (low intensity warfare is active), Cyprus, conflicts spreading throughout Africa, etc.).. there is a chance that in time the many concurrent globally expanding low intensity conflicts and larger approaching conflicts will be recognised as one. I hope that I am wrong.
Please do not post many pages from other sites, without any source given. Your own opinion is welcome, with sources given for any news you briefly introduce.
My intention was to establish context. Your effort to censor the information I have provided is unfortunate as I will no longer be forwarding further information. Good luck with approaching events.
I’m sorry. The context you were establishing is being discussed here 24/7. It is enough to refer briefly to an occurrence, putting a link to the source for those who may wish to re-read the background. News that is available only behind a paywall, or only in some other language which you can translate, is very welcome in full. Your own comments on events are, of course. also very welcome.
The thing with western people is this , they are a victim of massive propaganda by their own goverment , who excells in promoting their alleged military superiority ( gained by invading weak nations ). Even in defeat / stalemate , these western goverment always spin the events / news to influence their own people into thinking their military is superior to anyone else..
This kind of delusion among the people make them support totally their own goverment’s invasive foreign policy , thus it is like a parasite and host , both needing each other and destroy each other.. both the western goverment and their people deluded themselves into thinking they can take on major powers without getting hurt in the process.. after all, their adventures against weak countries never impacted their own home , and they think they can do this kind of military adventurism against russia or china..
it would be wise for western people who got so infatuated by their own myth of military superiority to step back and look in the mirror … do they think the NATO forces will face an easy enemy like libya or iraq or afghanistan ? do they think Western nations have the RESOLVE to fight in the face of massive casualties ?
Some points to reflect :
– Air Support / CAS : Do NATO think they can use CAS against a peer/near peer enemy without sustaining massive losses from MANPADS/SAM/AAA ?
– Helicopters : even the NVA/NC shot down thousands of these helicopters without SAM , they used plain old anti aircraft artilery (AAA) cannons or 50 cal HMG.. in the true modern war against peer enemies , there wont be helicopter insertions / medevac because it will just get shotdown. See : Ukraine’s helicopters and SU25s wiped out by rebels..
– Soft Skinned APC / Transports : Will be subjected to massive artilery fire / ATGM fire , when did the last time NATO forces ever experience massive artilery strikes on their forces ? Korean War..
– Heavy Armour / Tank : Will be subjected to mass ATGM fires and mines. Even ISIS can destroy the so called ‘mighty’ abrams.. maybe the ‘abrams’ tank are not so mighty after all.. See : Israeli’s debacle in Lebanon 2006
and many more examples..
how come you – as a military analyst – missed the disastrous spring 1915 from your list of Russia’s military defeats. This was by far the biggest Russian military defeat, ultimately leading to catastrophe of 1917 revolutions and their bloody aftermath. As a result of Russian defeat in the vincinity of Polish town of Gorlice (near Slovak border), the front line collapsed and fell back by 300-400 km (from Lodz to Pinsk).
Russians entered WWI highly motivated – the war was fought by Russians for noble ideals of saving Slavs from Austro-Hungarian oppresion. But the best Russian army units were butchered by German massive artillery, with Russian industry being no match for German shell-producing machine.
The reason for this catstrophic defeat was exactly the false myth of Russian invincibility and superiority of Russian soldier’s warrior spirit. Kind of like Sioux belief that ghost dance would protect them from bullets.
This was no minor episode for Russia – the complete collapse of Russian morale and economy in the years 1915-1917 was a direct cause of success of Lenin’s poisonous propaganda. Russia paid dearly for this military defeat – it has lost it’s orthodox soul, and for decades it was plundered by atheist criminals, with rivers of blood flowing.
On the other hand – Russia performed remarkably in WWI – but this was long after Russians got rid of the military hubris, and humbly fought for the Motherland.
That’s why I think that perpetuation of the invincibility myth is a deadly danger for Russia.
Tsarist army in the beginning of 20th century was completely rotten through. No wonder revolution took place as the whole house was rotten to the core.
It looks you are desperately looking for anything to diminish Russian soldier qualities. I would say Through centuries Russian have proven themselves to be very good soldiers. No one is completely invincible as battle comes, but statistics doe snot lie. Russia won most of the wars and Russian soldier was one of the major reason it was possible as Russia often had mediocre or bad military leadership.
1, I am honestly convinced about my point, so I ask you not to assume I have any agenda.
2, I could pay you back by saying that your assuming tsarist army “completely rotten” and “No wonder revolution took place” is a clear sign of your thinking being completely based upon bolshevik propaganda.
3, Military analyses I read clearly blamed Russians industrial insufficiency for the 1917-1917 military defeats and the resulting revolution.
4, Russia and its army were enthusiastic about entering the WWI. On the other hand, the competence of its military leaders was in much better state then in 1941. You surely know about the extermination campain against military leadership perpetrated by Stalin in 1937-1939. Nothing like that happened by the start of 20th century.
“That’s why I think that perpetuation of the invincibility myth is a deadly danger for Russia.”
If it were to be perpetuated/believed/acted upon by some then it would likely be true, but if perpetuated/believed/acted upon by some others then it would likely be untrue.

It’s eerie and surreal sensing how mankind instinctively gravitates towards the forces of darkness, as though by destiny, if not design. I fear the apocalypse is rapidly unfolding and that it is already too late to stop it.
2,3 and 6 are totally false.
Compare number and average age of aircrafts of US and Russia.
Soldiers of US ground forces are much more experienced than their Russian counterparts because they fought in so many wars in the last 20-30 years.
Please name one war they won.
Being Russian I often wonder why US/NATO did not attack us during the early 1990-s when our country was at her weakest. I think they feared a retaliation. Now if it comes to war, the retaliation will be much more serious.
Will tears of an American, Canadian, British, Polish, German mother over the remains of their sons be any different from the tears of a Russian mother? Are they not the same?
” Being Russian I often wonder why US/NATO did not attack us during the early 1990-s when our country was at her weakest.”
Not the whole answer but judicious use of encouraging the notion that US/NATO had won, alternating with strategies of tension, including the good cop/bad cop routines played by the Yeltsin/Zhirinovsky roadshow and others.
Some of the opponents wised up to this by the summer of 1994, but confirmation bias and narratives of utility, especially in regard to the folks back home, encouraged modulated reactions under Clinton and “Republican” congress including Senate Foreign Relations Committee fact finding mission/deliberations/decisions from summer 1994 onwards.
Many including Aslund and Sachs have been pissed ever since.
Russia got by with a little help from her friends.
Is this confrontation something new or are we looking at what Sadat called an “imaginary foe” of the West when speaking about the Soviet Union?
The 2 purposes of Soviet rule where :
stabilize the Anglo system and restrain the Russian soul.
Soviet rule was purposely abandoned when intellectual life could no longer be suppressed and a purposely disgusting , pre conceived crash “Westernization” program launched.
Now the pendulum swings back and we will know it when the Russians are chained once again:
forced into their churches by 2 daggers – Western degeneracy and a new mind bending Orthodox fundamentalism which is emerging now.
All this proceeds nicely and the masterminds will not risk everything through war.
If you dont believe it , put your trust in Larchmonters “white haired men” or consider the following. A key mechanism from the “Soviet” game is still operational today: the Atlanticist vs. Eurasian Integrationist opposition which dates from Trotzky Stalin times. When Stalin took over in Moscow Wall Street really thought they lost Russia. Cf Sutton : Wall Street and the Bolshevik Revolution.
I don’t want to divulge any intelligence secrets, but nuclear war will never happen. The only place where nukes exist are in Hollywood movie studios.
War has been going on for decades. The Cold War never ended with the collapse of the USSR. The Soviet Union faked its own “collapse,” as per Anatoliy Golitsyn. There’s been multi-decade KGB active measures that are inflicting the West today. Take a look at the worsening condition of the American education system, “AIDS,” lax immigration laws, missing border control, ideological subversion of traditional Christian values and social mores, etc. Anyways, this topic is far too much to write in one post.
If there is a war between Russia and NATO. I’d wager that China would jump in, 100% chance of that happening. The weapons of this next war will be far more advanced than what we’ve seen in science fiction movies. I’m talking about psychotronic weapons, directed energy weapons, microwave auditory effect weapons, EEG heterodyning, scalar waves, genetic weapons, weather weapons, etc. It’s not going to be pretty. As an American, I don’t want anything bad to happen to the USA because obviously my family is there, but war is brutal.
Regarding Soviet “fake collapse.”
I suspect that is what America doing today: a fake collapse in order to reorganize society as a more openly fascist American empire–like the spawning of a North American Union (with America swallowing up Canada and Mexico) and rise of the “Amero” as the new currency.
In fact, this fake collapse has its dry run with the curious events of 9-11, where the USA was able to launch its bogus War on Terrorism and impose a domestic police state using this oh-so-convenient “attack.”
You could even go back further and convincingly argue that the American “Revolution” of 1776 was one of the greatest political frauds in history, as the USA contintued to be part of the British (Anglo) Empire, albeit in more disguised ways. This would explain the incestuous “special relationship” that America and Britain have.
Special Relationship is a concoction post-WW2. During WW2, Roosevelt always had better understanding with Stalin than with Churchill. Churchill, in 1942, stubbornly refused Roosevelt’s strong advice to grant a national govt to India which, Roosevelt expected would join the allies willingly, provide huge trained manpower and ease the ongoing Japanese attack on the US. Roosevelt finally got exasperated and said that “.. if as a result of your failure to have a national govt in India , the Japanese make further inroads into India, then American public opinion would be inclined to review thwe alliance with Great Britain.. ” . So, Churchill risked even the safety of his country from Nazi attack , for the sake of a few second-rate Englichmen roaming around in India in solar topees ands bullying everyone around.
Unfortunately, Roosevelt died even before war’s end and among other things, his plans to pursue those republicans who had collaboirated with the Nazis fell through. The BRits worked on Truman, Roosevelt’s successor, and the dubious “Special Relationship” came about.
Chinese jump into a Russian war? Not even if hell were freeze over!
China would jump in to defend Russia. Why would China let Russia get attacked, China and Russia share a long border, and it’d be a national security risk if more American bases surround China. There’s already the South Korean and Japanese American bases. How would the United States feel if Mexico and Canada were allied to China, and the Chinese had military bases in Mexico or Cuba. That feeling is what China has.
“The Cold War never ended with the collapse of the USSR. The Soviet Union faked its own “collapse,” as per Anatoliy Golitsyn.”
It would appear like many you prefer simple narratives to describe complex lateral processes, especially when proferred by “experts” perceived to be “exceptional”.
You also appear to be immersed in the opponents ideological notion of exceptionalism, including by positing primary or sole agency to the Soviet Union.
Perhaps the following will help catalyse a journey of discovery.
“The Cold War” – the war was never cold, leaving aside what constitutes “war”. Don’t rely on me test the hypothesis.
“never ended” – perhaps a more useful designation might be mutated?
“the collapse of” – what constitutes a collapse?
“the USSR” – since the USSR no longer exists did it collapse?
“The Soviet Union faked its own “collapse” – if it faked its own collapse, did it collapse?
Try not to wriggle by saying that the Soviet Union and the USSR were not synonymous.
If it did collapse was the catalyst for this collapse solely dependent on the Soviet Union?
If the collapse was faked what is the Soviet Union?
If the collapse was not faked what was the Soviet Union?
Do entities rather than people act and are they capable of faking?
Tell me again…what are the americows and NATO stooges going to be fighting for? (Like a cause!)
…and the Russian people? (and i mean all of them women, kids old men)
Personally i think its a giant bluff while they scam the stupid fat sheeple goy americow tax payer….after all some schmuck has to pay for this ‘war’….cold or real.
ps. I am no longer allowed to bring up the subject of a Russian-NATO war as my Stalin era Russian friend is in pain from laughing and is now saying its a form of torture! His laughter can last for hours!
Thankyou for this eloquent piece. As Paul Craig Roberts is fond of saying. the American public is completely insouciant, and that includes the political class and the intellectual class.

Putin’s New ‘Wunderwaffe’: The World’s Deadliest Tank? – Why tankers in the West should be worried about Moscow’s new armor.
Among other sources, it refers to an extraordinary assessment of the Russian “Armata” tank in the March issue of Foreign Military Studies Office in the US ( http://fmso.leavenworth.army.mil/OEWatch/201503/201503.pdf , page 53!), as well as to the 31 March article in Der Stern “Russen-Panzer – Armata Putins neue Wunderwaffe” ( http://www.stern.de/auto/news/kampfpanzer-armata-t-14-putins-neue-wunderwaffe-2184103.html , in turn providing links to interesting YouTube presentations).
US adventure in Poland could as well come to fiasco in case of war.
I want remind everybody, that Eastern part of Poland from Bialystok to Rzeszow might not necessary be pro-US, it doesn’t means they are pro-Russian either.
I give you a hint what I mean.
A communist man ( ex-Warsaw Pact army officer, high rank ) have 3 sons.
One is serving in Police ( High Rank ), second is in the polish army ( high rank officer ), and the third works in the armament industry.
it is very important how the eventual war would develop ( who started, etc…), and with it, they views might change as well, or do they made minds already ?
I am not communist, but I’m not US puppy either.
“I am not communist”
You may not believe this but neither is Russia nor the vast majority of Russians.
Russia is not the Soviet Union, and even in the Soviet Union there were a majority of people who were not communists, a term which was often used as another name for the nomenklatura, and challenge took on many forms as opportunities afforded.
The work of Teresa Toranska especially Oni is not only understood but is understood as having resonances in the Soviet Union and elsewhere.
Stalin is reported to have said that imposing communism in Poland was like trying to put a saddle on an ox – it was a similar practice and result in the Soviet Union and elsewhere.
Don’t take my word for it, or Sikorsky’s or Tusks’ or anyone one elses.
Test the hypotheses yourself, and if appropriate suggest the same to your family.
Try also to use this logic in evaluating some entries on this blog.
In large measure Russia and the Russians understand that governments and other misnamed representative organs are not synonymous with the people, and through difficult experience have generally learned not to look for good guys in white hats or bad guys in black hats.
I see we got here some misunderstanding.
But I don’t blame you, perhaps it is my fault, to be precise – my English grammar su*ks.
When I said I AM NOT a COMMUNIST, I only tried to distance myself from that ex-Warsaw pact officer mentioned as a hint.
It is likely not a function of grammar.
I did generally understand you and some of the opportunities afforded by you, including your final sentence ” I am not communist, but I’m not US puppy either.”
However I would suggest it would be wiser not to restrict your perception to ” Bialystok to Rzeszow”.
Why not test the hypotheses in Poznan, or Gdansk, or Katowice, or Lodz or Sosnowiec to name a few?
It is not outwith the realms of possibilty that
“A communist man ( ex-Warsaw Pact army officer, high rank ) have 3 sons.
One is serving in Police ( High Rank ), second is in the polish army ( high rank officer ), and the third works in the armament industry.”
would be flexible given encouragement.
No, we don’t understand each another. ( by the way – pick some name, Anonymous )
I hope there are some who do understand me.
To clarify again:
By Stating “Bialystok to Rzeszow” I only wanted to highlight the scale of people, and because they are from the eastern part that’s why it would be wrong to say Poznan, Crocow etc …
In some way related to my “POINT”, however it’s happening abroad, and in a peace time:
Czechoslovak Reservists Issue Memorandum against NATO.
“No, we don’t understand each another.”
That is likely true, but does not preclude that one person understood the other one whilst this understanding was not mutual/reciprocal.
This is further substantiated by:
“( by the way – pick some name, Anonymous )”
I don’t like the looks of this at all!!!
US-Israel Wage War on Iran in Syria
By Tony Cartalucci, Information Clearinghouse.
exerpt: “Russian and Chinese efforts to obstruct US designs in Syria are about more than selfish regional interests, they are a matter of self-preservation, stopping the conflict in Syria from spilling into Iran next, southern Russia afterwards, and eventually enveloping western China as well.”
The Zionist/US doesn’t really want to ‘conquer’ anybody – Perpetual war is the business they are in – China manufactures – Russia sells energy – The US economy is based on money printing and perpetual war – They see Russia simply as a new client !
I look at this on the bright side. America would quickly and irretrievably lose its banality, and the folks that manage to come through it will have a lot more in common with Russians than the average dude (or dudesse) does now. But I hope the unspeakable horror of this age finds a less environmentally devastating way of collapsing in on itself and stewing away quietly in its own juices.
Well, all *I* can do is pray, and I’ve sure been doing that.
Yes and no.
I am sure the threats are serious – but I suspect the context is not how seriously Russia takes its own position on Crimea, but how unseriously it takes the purported US position.
The comments (and this is certainly how they would get reported backwards via the US) were meant to say “nobody takes US suggestions that Crimea should be Ukrainian as anything but a stupid joke, and nobody considers the idea that the US would risk nuclear war as part of a defence of Ukraine as anything but a joke”.
Which is not to say that there is no preparedness to act there.
But Russia is telling the US straight up that it can’t take it’s claims seriously AND that it doesn’t even believe the US takes them seriously. This of course is the correct approach – in the face of absurd behaviour – laugh.
The following X22-Report from Dave is one of the best from him I have ever heard – my be it is also an interesting analysis for the Saker.
I don’t know if America’s military is better than Russia’s. But there is one thing that American troops are much better at than Russians:

An invitation to ask a culture to forget its history?
Put simply, that post reads like a 17 year old claiming his football team is better than his opponents based of a mixture of fact and fiction. In other words, it’s written from the heart rather than the head.
No one doubts the strength of the Russian forces, but proclaiming they are superior in every department shows a lack of holistic thought. We’ve not had a war in Europe for 70 years, people, technology and training have all changed. Who’s to say one gun is better than another?
There are a number of holes in your arguments. My main gripe being that no one has ever won a war, merely defeated another force. No one wins. Ever. Did Soviet troops win in Afghanistan? They lost 15,000 troops and 1 million civilians died too. Is that winning?
Russia have a greater advantage in terms of land wars, but if any war did happen (it won’t by the way) you portray it as WWI. It’s going to be all technology based, cruise missiles, stealth fighters etc. There won’t be thousands of troops on the ground.
Anyway, keep up the blog, it’s a laugh a minute
” My main gripe being that no one has ever won a war, merely defeated another force. No one wins.”
Defining “war” might clarify matters, as would “winning”, “losing”, evaluation criteria, evaluation methods and evaluation horizons, but doing so would largely obscure/restrict formulation of strategic purpose whilst simultaneously acting as a deflection tool.
“no one has ever won a war, merely defeated another force.”
A full analysis of for example why the present slogan is “Glory to the heroes” would likely substantiate your point, and highlight valid strategic purpose that would preclude such “occurence”, not by winning or losing, but by not taking place..
As far as I understand it the present purpose of active participants is to transcend the opponents i.e. to catalyse lateral change from “exceptionalism” to equal and different.
If that is held to be the present purpose, evaluation of a significant part of this blog would likely suggest that it “reads like a 17 year old claiming his football team is better than his opponents based of a mixture of fact and fiction. In other words, it’s written from the heart rather than the head” as you say, although perhaps a more more relevant description would be through projection.
I suggest evaluation would also afford various examples of immersion in the opponents’ ideologies/practices.
Your contention that “it’s a laugh a minute” however shows your own immersion in a seminal aspect of the opponents’ ideologies/practices namely “exceptionalism”.
However unless you conflate mass with critical mass that is not of overriding significance or an insurmountable barrier to the present purpose, merely an illustration of difference, if difference and equality are not held to be mutually exclusive.
However feel “free” to continue your immersion in exceptionalism since it is generally easier to transcend those who only see their own projected holograms, as I suggest has been illustrated through history including recent history.
That worry of “losing” by projection is presently exercising many of the opponents including other “exceptionalists” such as Mr. Stephen F. Cohen and Mr. John Mearsheimer to name but two.
On binary “thinking”, on linear “thinking” and implicit premises all in a short “package” in Russian
There will be no WW III . And no nuclear war.
The Ukraine situation is dire and sad. However, normalization will follow in the coming years; there are already many signs of it, including Russia selling gas to Ukraine cheaply. Normalization is also the only way as nobody will win with further escalation. That was exactly the reason for the reported harsh meeting between Nato & Russia – the Russia had to be sure the US understands that escalation will lead to further escalation with unlimited consequences including all – out war. Perhaps a Russian bluff, but I do hope US will not try to call.
On the other hand, Russia also made it very clear to the EU that it wants normalization and the support in the EU is overwhelming. Of course, it will be the Greeks, the Hungarians and the Slovaks who will veto the sanctions, but the Germans and French will be all to happy to say ‘these are the rules, we could not do anything’ whereas they will benefit most. That, in my view – luckily, restricts the amount of actions the US can take.
The US will be unhappy, will keep political / economical sanctions, but that will be it. Some political solution for the Easter Ukraine will have to be found, agreed and the issue will be closed. It will perhaps take a decade, but there is already a lot of ground to see it happen.
As for the empire crumbling, the US still leads in the hi-tech and despite the great many problems in the country including mis-allocation of resources, problematic elites and somewhat bankrupt economy, it will survive. World will be different in few decades – I hope better – and I hope that it can be achieved without too much turmoil. Hard times are certainly ahead, but I believe that folks will, in the end, chose the rational outcomes and madness will be avoided. Nobody wants to have millions of souls on his/her conscience, nobody wants to be shown in history as the person responsible for the biggest war in human history and for the utter destruction of the Earth. Certainly nobody in the US, EU, Russia or China.
As for humanity, we are at the point where we either start seeing all of us, regardless of the country we are coming from, as folks who have almost everything in common or we will face total destruction in the nuclear war. I trust that in current world we can create a situation where it will not be necessary for any country / group of people to fight for resources in order to ensure simple survival. I hope we can shape Earth into world where everyone can be somewhat successful provided he/she works hard enough and where population will stabilize (as it stabilizes in developed countries nowadays) or even reduce over time. Otherwise, it would lead to the end of us all, including the elites, and the destruction of Earth.
The idea of surviving in bunkers is something nobody look forward to. Nobody wants to spend the rest of their life (and their children and grandchildren and grand-grandchildren) sitting underground without seeing sun, with the knowledge that everything outside has been destroyed and that the Earth is not a blue planet anymore. Not to mention that technology will fail in the end, so chances for the simple survival are low even for the elites.
The major problem for the future is not Russia, but fanatics, believing in being the chosen ones, hoping for Armageddon / return of the Messiah and yearning for total destruction. Such non-rational entity, perhaps a bit like the current IS with fanaticism magnified by 1000 (or literally like some cults which ends in mass suicide), would be a huge worry and problem, especially when armed with nuclear weapons. Luckily, even in such countries, the masses may believe in the ideology, but the leadership tends to be more cynical and does not want total destruction (and especially self-destruction). However, the risk of the WW III would be, in such unfortunate case, significant.
Some war techniques of the inept.
The consumption of friedship/solidarity by blat.
Excellent article- very informative and well written. As for the final paragraph, You and I are in total agreement. I remember vividly going to bed in 1962 wondering if it would be the last night or if the attack would be tomorrow. Now it seems that because it did not happen then, it can’t happen at all. The worst part is that most people in the US neither know or care to know
Saker, deep respect for all You have been – and will be – doing,
I have frequently reposted Your articles at Maxpark.ru – and subsequently relayed them elsewhere.
This is true for this Appeal of Yours – it went in due course to all social nets.

А ты как думал?
What do you think?
“Драться за мир”?
Это как? И с кем драться-то? А если тебе рожу набьют, что ты будешь орать? О несправедливости? Так не лезь “драться за мир” и тогда будет мир!
“Fight for peace”?
It’s like? And with whom to fight? But if you face
stuff, what are you going to yell? About injustice? So do not go “fight for peace” and then there will be peace!]
As has often been remarked, control is illusory. After WWI, it was widely believed there would never be another war in Europe. The present fragile global economic situation and imperial military posturing are extremely alarming. How, one reasonably wonders, does this scenario NOT spin out of ‘control’? Clearly, Russia is rightfully preparing for a clear and present danger, namely nuclear WWIII. Things really are as bad as they seem, unfortunately, and rapidly deteriorating.
Greetings everyone. I’m Russian. We respect other countries. We like American, European, Asian citizens. We do not want to offend anyone. We do not want any war near our borders, or on our territory. But I and anyone else in Russia will stand against any invasion.
Please, don’t do this.
Thank You for the article. You are absolutely right, I am ready to prove every word you say.
For people in Europe or the US – the war is an adventure, where Superman killed thousands of angry natives.
For the people of Russia – the war is work, hard work at the limit of human capabilities, and even beyond. This is the main Russian military secret.
We do not want war, war is the death of children, the tears of old men and women, the destruction, the blood, millions of ruined lives (now dozens of peaceful ethnic Russians die every day in Eastern Ukraine… the new authorities declared them terrorists, just because they don’t agree with the coup, we look at their death every day… and can’t do anything (it’s scary). But people in Ukraine who dare to say that the new authorities were engaged in civil war… hiding behind the lie of “Russian aggression” kill in the center of Kiev, yesterday murdered journalist Oles Buzina).
he war between Russia and the USA will not make Americans richer, no one will be happy… Russia and the USA there is no contradiction… The only thing the Russians fault that we don’t want to obey the global dictatorship of a group of people that print dollar (ordinary Americans themselves take the dollars in debt in exchange for ious Treasury securities)… after every war, ordinary Americans become poorer, it is a fact.
We must do everything to stop the senseless war in which innocent will die the Americans and the Russians… before it is too late
If Iraq, Libya,Syria, Egypt and Iran’s demonstrated ability to defend themselves, using Russian-supplied defenses, against “coalition” (read NATO) attacks, Russia does indeed have a great deal to fear.
Deeply disturbing… because it appears to be so true. I see no indication anywhere around me, except your blog and Paul Craig Roberts’, that any Americans have any clue what is going on around them. When more Americans are killed by local police than are killed by enemy action in countries we’ve invaded — and there is simply general acceptance; the prospects for the country are dire, indeed.
I don’t think most of the world wants to go to war with the US. But like the Athenians before the Peloponnesian, the US will simply unite the world against it, by unthinking, unrelenting belligerence.
Soviet propaganda still runs fast and thick.
I’am Russian – this is first of all. 1/4 Ukranian.
Important thing. For foreners Russian nationality and Russian citizenship is described by the same word – Russian, so you don’t really understand the big difference.
While in russian there two different words.
Russkiy – means person with Russian roots. From the old word Rus’. Russian and Ukranians are Russkiy’s!
Rossiyanin – mean Russian citizen, from country name Russia.
Russia is a part of old Rus’ same as Ukrain.
Somehow it is discribing us, Russians, even slightly better then I’am thinking of us myself).
My Grand…grandfather in 18th century was the leader of Ukranian revolt against Poland invaders.
There are several monuments in Ukrain in his memory.
My grandfather was participating in Dec1941 battle for Moscow, and finished his war in Berlin.
He didn’t like to talk about war but for his grandson he sometimes did an exception.
He was the commander of the air defenses gun crew shooting at point-blank against approaching german tanks.
His higher officer, major, sad to them. “You all are already dead. Just shoot and count blown tanks. We will met in next life and check who brag more.”
I have family and kids, and god know’s how I’am afraid of big bloody war, my ancestors passed througt.
But if NATO=American soldier will put foot on my long-suffering land I will take a gun and will not stop before my foot will be put on the top of White House.
What my grandfather taught me well is that “The right for your children to live in peace is the most valuable right in that world and you should be ready to protect is against any invader and any force by all means possible, even your own life”.
Read a few parts of this article and couldn’t help noticing that essentially the whole thing is delusional BS with major inaccuracies.
In particular I would like to point out which of the 6 “raw facts” are believable or accurate.
2. Massively false!
3. LAUGHABLY false! (I confess I did actually laugh out loud as I read #3!)
4. Entirely true. No argument here.
5. Massively false! See note below…
6. False! Many of the NATO member states have world-class special forces with larger budgets, more training, better equipment, and by far the most important factor; they have significantly better logistical support.
Regarding #5: Russia’s nuclear forces are more modern but still suffer from significantly less capability in a real-world scenario. This is down to two main things in particular; the vast combined quantity of US & NATO subs and the geographic constraints between Russia and NATO. Most of NATO’s nuclear forces are practically sitting on Russia’s doorstep, while most of Russia’s nukes are located in or near European waters and directly on Russian territory. This means that Russia needs significantly more time to hit strategic targets while simultaneously leaving Russia with much less time to detect and respond to incoming missiles. NATO also has dozens of important or strategic targets located all over Europe and North America, while most of Russia’s strategic targets are located in relatively close proximity to each other along a line running north to south along Russia’s western border with Europe. The huge advantage that NATO has with much shorter distances to travel combined with having a significantly larger detection window is the reason why Russia has been so determined to prevent a missile defense shield in Europe. As it stands today, only US & NATO forces have the ability, at least in a theoretical sense, to overcome Russia’s nuclear deterrent with a ‘first strike.’ Assuming a fully functional missile defense shield is made operational, then it will guarantee NATO’s first strike capability with the added ability to thwart a retaliatory strike by intercepting Russian missiles during the earliest stages of the launch, long before any independent warheads or decoys can be deployed.
Fortunately, it is this advantage that is being used for the benefit of all mankind to ensure a reasonable amount of peace in the world despite the imperial ambitions of the warmongering Putin regime. We are all very fortunate that this power is being wielded by the side that is only interested in selling iPhone’s and Audi’s to the whole world. That’s not a cheap jab at the citizens of Russian though. The Russian people could be trusted with that same power, just not while an egotistical tyrant like Putin running the country. Men like Big Bad Vlad aren’t interested in lasting peace, which can be easily confirmed by simply looking back at his political career from the 1990’s through present day.
Saker: I fully agree with a recent article on Russia Insider entitled “NATO Would Probably Lose A War Against Russia“. …… 3. The Russian Air Force is more capable that NATO’s, both in terms of personnel and in terms of equipment. 4. Russian Air Defense Forces are the best on the planet. 5. Russian nuclear forces are much more modern and capable than the US ones….. The only reason I feel that I have to repeat all these things is in the hope that somebody somewhere will take my warnings seriously and warn his/her bosses. [end of quote]
I believe your view ignores the following facts:
– the existence of military black projects
– the size of the military black budgets
– the size of the Western economy versus the size of the Russian economy, which likely determines the size of the black budgets and the size of the secret military developments
The fact is that military secrets can be kept just fine: the Manhattan Project was completely outside of public knowledge before the explosion of the first nuclear bomb.
On the other hand, Russia from 1992 was busted and bewilderingly many military secrets have been disclosed to the western intelligence.
“The U.S. government manipulated the public’s belief in UFOs to hide military aircraft experimentation” (http://www.amazon.com/Mirage-Men-Adventure-Espionage-Psychological/dp/1602398003/)
Given the aforementioned, it is only reasonable to assume the Western military is far more powerful than the Russian in many important respects. If Russians “will not submit, they will not “blink”, they will not surrender and they will fight you with everything they have,” good for them.
You are 1oo percent correct. I am amazed how asleep Americans are! We just moved to 5 acres in the country where we can. Have chickens farm animals. We are headed for a dollar collaspe. I fear our government would rather start ww3 then to lose its goal status!
Western Ignorance is nothing but will full blindness to the activities and world history that allowed these young upstarts to preen around after ww2. That lasted until 1970 since then real wages have stagnated or gone down. We live in a complete surveillance state, we are 19 trillion in debt and it is not getting any better and yet we believe we are the exceptional nation that must have full spectrum dominance over the globe- does anything sound more Hitleresque than that? I don’t think so/ And last night on David Letterman Don Rickles says were gonna get a Jew President next har har har har/ Talking to Jew H Stern. So its double down on PNAC make no mistake they have invested half of their gdp into achieving this goal for the past 6o years. Zio fascist Run America the world is in danger beyond the motherland.
Russia is at war with Ukraine, whether you admit it or not. Russians (from Donbas, Crimea and Russia itself) are fighting Ukrainians.
I have no doubts that Russians are ready to anihilate Washington. But are you ready to nuke Kiev? I do not think so. I do not think that Russians are morally and psychologically willing to wage a total war against Ukraine.
Therefore, while Russia could be able to defeat the USA (millitary capacities and no moral and psychological barriers to use them if necessary), Russia is not able to defeat Ukraine.
In the Russia’s war against Ukraine, nukes are totally useless. They do not make sense from a tactical point of view (they are useles against paramilitaries like Azov or Donbas batalions). Nukes are useless for psychological and moral reasons, since Russians (including Putin) still believe that Ukrainians are part of their “tribe” and do not have the guts to nuke them.
And the West knows that. Russia can possibly “win” the war against the US because there is still the possibility of a nuclear strike. But the nuclear strike against Kiev is out of question. Even an open invasion of Ukraine is highly problematic from a moral and psychological point of view. Just have a loook at the course of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Putin chose to invade Crimea only when he was 90% sure that Ukrainians would not fight back. He was ready to nuke Americans if they send troops to Crimea. But he was not ready to nuke Kiev if Ukrainians decided to defend themselves. Russians are not morally and psychologically ready to wage open war against Ukrainians, despite massive propaganda by the media. That is why Putin had to resort to secret war.
That is why Obama is hesitant to send US army to Ukraine. He knows that Ukraine can win the war. The US can not.
Will Russians “blink”? They already did!!! Just listen to what Igor Strelkov is saying all the time! Putin blinked by not sending an invasion force to Donbas. Russian separatists in Donbas have to rely on irregular “volunteers” from Russia, supplies of sometimes inferior military hardware, Russian advisers and occasional intervention of regular forces (Ilovaisk, Debalcevo).
Just like I am tolking in my society! Thank you to assist my thought s and actions.
No nuclear war as nuclear weapons don’t work it has been proven just a scare tactic used by the NWO to terrorize the populace. But what does work is HAARP invented by Tesla will possible be used for a fake asteroid strike on earth using a blue ray effect.
The only way for America to save face and join the human race would be a huge natural catastrophe rendered her invalid. Then the entire world offered HUMANITARIAN AID only no guns they have enough…..And still lecturing from the rest of the world would still be needed. Yellowstone is past due, but that would do it.
I think russia will be read always to war and never surrederbut i think Russia is the stronger country if is ready for war. I think Russia is the stronger country
Not to forget that Russia government cares about her people and has built extensive civil defense shelters for them in the event of WWIII.
We have nothing but the Nuclear War Survival Guide (an excellent publication) that tells you how to quickly build a shelter in your basement when the sirens sound while the little woman runs to the grocery store for some canned goods, flashlight batteries and bottled water.

Its always the people that suffer. I wish God would bring his date forward, as I am sick to death of idiots all around the world, their greed, their corruption and their pathetic oxford degrees leading them insane decisions.
Please act father, for the elect need you.
